We're actively seeking vibrant Civil or Environmental Engineering Co-ops (HR Title= Engineering Intern) to join our Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026 teams in either Cincinnati or Pittsburgh. Picture your semester filled with exciting challenges, starting in early-September to late-December 2025 (Fall 2025) or early-January to late-April 2026 (Spring 2026). Early starters and those keen on extending beyond the proposed end dates are welcomed to add even more value. But it's not just about the work - our co-op program goes beyond projects, featuring regular presentations by SWCA leaders.

This is a paid, full-time (35-40hr/wk) co-op opportunity offering a competitive $23.00 per hour. Join us for an enriching experience where you'll gain hands-on insights and valuable skills in the vibrant world of environmental consulting.

What you will accomplish

As an Engineering Co-op, you will:

  • Support project managers and field leads in various engineering projects (stream restoration, wetland restoration, site grading, stormwater management, inspections, etc.).
  • Engage in office tasks such as data clean-up, reporting, and other tasks supporting the Engineering team.
  • Conduct fieldwork across office locations and nearby states, including hiking for extended periods.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and independently when required.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a related field. In addition, the individual must have completed their first year of their engineering curriculum.
  • Master's degree candidates will also be considered; Ph.D. candidates are not eligible through this program.
  • Ability to travel to the field 50% of the time, including spending up to a week or two at a field location.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle on remote backcountry roads.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new survey and monitoring techniques and protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D through classwork, projects, professional/co-op experience, or volunteer work preferred.
  • Individuals enrolled in a co-op program built into their university engineering curriculum are preferred."

Helpful Skills

  • Familiarity with GPS devices, digital data collection, and mapping software such as ArcGIS.
  • Technical writing experience.

An employee in this position can expect an hourly rate of $23.00/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
