About This Role

Kansas State University and the College of Education is seeking applicants for a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor in Adult Learning and Leadership housed in the Educational Leadership department to begin January 2026 (with negotiation to start August 2026). We seek a dynamic scholar whose research and teaching align with our mission as a land-grant institution and who is committed to advancing adult learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in adult learning academic core areas and developing specialized topic courses, advising/mentoring graduate students, gaining graduate faculty status from the Graduate School, and serving on and chairing master's and doctoral committees. The successful candidate will have earned an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in the field of adult education or related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for teaching graduate level courses in both face-to-face basis and distance (asynchronous and synchronous) modalities depending upon the department needs. A successful candidate should have a record of scholarship and successful experience teaching adult learners.

The vision of the College of Education at Kansas State University is "preparing educators to be knowledgeable, ethical, and caring decision makers." This position, along with all positions in the College of Education, is directly responsibility for advancing this vision and that of the Department of Educational Leadership. The Department of Educational Leadership houses a K-12 leadership graduate program, the Adult Learning and Leadership graduate programs, the Community College Leadership doctoral program. The Adult Learning and Leadership program offers graduate certificates in adult learning, social justice, and leadership; MS in Adult Learning and Leadership; and a Ed.D./Ph.D. in adult education or closely related field. The program is offered at a variety of locations throughout the state of Kansas as well as at a distance.


Worksite Description

This position is hybrid eligible.

The employee must be available to be on the Manhattan campus frequently during the work week for routine and scheduled meetings. Travel to and from the Manhattan campus would be at the employee's expense.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must hold earned doctorate in adult education or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated scholarly and practitioner expertise in adult education;
  • A strong and clearly defined research agenda that complements the strategic priorities of Kansas State University and its land-grant mission;
  • Experience teaching graduate-level adult education courses in both online (synchronous and asynchronous) and face-to-face environments;
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively in group settings;
  • A commitment to high-quality teaching, advising, and professional engagement with adult learner population;
  • Commitment to the doctoral program by advising doctoral students, serving on and chairing dissertations, and teaching doctoral courses;
  • Commitment to developing specialized courses in areas of teaching and adult learning; and
  • Eligibility for appointment to graduate faculty status or quickly able to do so with peer-reviewed publications.


Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience developing and teaching qualitative or quantitative research courses;
* Experience developing programs for adult learners;
* Experience recruiting graduate students for a degree program;
* Practical experience in delivering adult education within applied settings (e.g., military, health care, agriculture, manufacturing); and
* Evidence of external funding or strong potential to secure research support.
