What you Will do

As a Fire Alarm Subject Matter Expert (SME) at Johnson Controls, you will work closely with the sales team and the pre-bid Global Center of Excellence to review and assist in assembling accurate bills of material, material costs, and labor costs for large and complex projects, typically those exceeding $250,000. You will be responsible for value engineering projects to determine the most cost-effective methods to meet customer requirements. Your focus will cover various project cost categories, including material, project management labor, installation labor, fabrication labor, CAD/design labor, and subcontractor labor, reviewing approximately $120M of project costs per year.

How You will do it

The SME will primarily collaborate with sales, the pre-bid Global Center of Excellence, and customers to ascertain project requirements. Additionally, you will coordinate and communicate with other company functions (design, construction, project management, etc.) to help refine cost estimates.

A key expectation for the SME is to perform pre-bid reviews that assist sales in securing pricing to eliminate potential project erosion after the award. With SME review, a minimum 20% reduction in erosion is anticipated.

We seek a candidate with strategic thought leadership, process analysis, and solution architecture design skills. Exceptional communication skills are essential, alongside a high degree of self-management, including effective scheduling and prioritization of work.

What we look for

  • SME should possess expertise in fire alarm systems, and ideally,

  • Candidates will have 8 or more years of experience in fields such as design, field installation, project management, operations management, and/or sales.

  • Relevant certifications, including NICET Level 3 or 4 in the respective field and/or a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, are preferred.
