The primary responsibilities of the Industrial Chief Engineer include providing technical expertise and consultative services to department management, evaluating and solving operational problems, and managing and controlling operations. They are expected to set strategies for transforming business processes and operational tools to achieve global excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Leading and participating in cross-functional teams for various projects, such as expansion, new products, procedures, GSE, sort equipment, regulatory compliance, and manpower needs. They also lead and provide consultative services project teams of varying sizes, composed of professional employees from different areas of the corporation, as required. Ensure all documentation complies with FedEx requirements and processes.
  • Responsible for developing plans for efficient package volume distribution to ensure optimum facility utilization.
  • Oversees multiple projects to ensure suppliers and hired professional services comply with policies, procedures, and governing authorities
  • Provides project leadership for business plan development, handling complex engineering problems, evaluating and developing solutions to problems, and leading projects that improve productivity planning. They also
  • Conducts research and evaluations of emerging technologies and management methodologies.
  • Independently defines parameters for strategic planning, develops alternative solutions, and applies financial and risk analysis to productivity planning.
  • Advise management on policies and procedures related to engineering functions and responsibilities, and represent or assist management in coordinating various engineering disciplines in support of programs.
  • Recommend, lead, and oversee studies designed to implement sound and innovative engineering concepts into operations, systems, and customer solutions to benefit FedEx and its customers.
  • Lead innovative engineering concepts and initiatives, and provide unique technical expertise to corporate executive management in the areas of industrial engineering, decision analysis, systems design, and operations analysis.
  • Leads and oversees the evaluation of capital and expense requests, as well as annual and long-range budget processes and oversee the development of project and operational budgets based on recommendations for cost savings.
  • Leads and oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of financial and operational indicators for corporate or department initiatives.
  • Prepares and present business justifications in support of the funding approval process.
  • Leads and oversees the design and delivery of technical training to personnel through workshops, seminars, and one-on-one sessions in areas such as operations, manning, contingency planning, cost-effectiveness, and productivity.
  • Assists management in the technical guidance of department staff, planning, recruiting, and training.
  • Champions communication processes and roles between operations and corporate departments to provide technical and local expertise related to corporate initiatives and operations.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering required.

Minimum Experience

Eight (8) years of relevant experience in planning, designing, developing, and implementing strategic projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong problem-solving, conceptual, analytical, planning, human relations, and communication skills are essential.

Industrial engineering expertise.

Strong project management skills.

Ability to effectively communicates utilizing oral presentations and formal written reports with all levels of management, up to and including the Chairman of the Board.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred skills: Strong Network Engineering experience. Project Management certification. Proficient in Power B1. Strong Executive presentation skills. Some travel may be required.
