We
have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Washington D.C. for a Sr. CPT Regulatory Manager on our Health Solutions team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.

This position will advise CPT stakeholders and AMA leaders on the inclusion of emerging
healthcare technologies and practices in the CPT code set, positioning AMA and
CPT as the definitive source for procedural coding. Serve as lead staff to
governing bodies overseeing AMA innovation policies, including the CPT
Editorial Panel. This role will provide operational leadership for the implementation
of AI-related code structures and drive process improvements to modernize CPT
workflows. The role also collaborates across AMA and with external stakeholders
to align CPT coding with value-based care and digital health models. This role bridges coding, stakeholder
engagement, and system-level design to support scalable and forward-looking CPT
infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

External Engagement and Innovation Partnerships

  • Analyze current capabilities of existing codes in meeting the needs of the healthcare industry companies and other stakeholders and identify potential gaps in coding that may lead to changes in CPT as well as alternatives to code changes such as changes to coverage policies
  • Document, analyze and report to AMA leadership on stakeholder issues and feedback related to the CPT process as well as larger coverage and payment issues that could be addressed by bodies.
  • Represent AMA and CPT at events on emerging issues in healthcare, such as precision medicine, digital medicine, and augmented intelligence
  • Liaise with external entities such as FDA, CMS and industry consortia, particularly in relation to AI oversight and code alignment with evolving regulatory frameworks

CPT Evolution Through Emerging Technology Trends

  • Work with CPT VP, CPT Director, Environment Intelligence, AMA Advocacy, and others to identify new healthcare technology and market trends that can affect appropriate coding, coverage and payment for new and emerging technologies that are driving change in clinical practice such as Remote Patient Monitoring
  • Collaborate across Health Solutions, AMA and the broader healthcare industry to integrate coding, coverage and payment subject matter expertise into solutions addressing emerging healthcare needs and markets and enhancing the mission of the AMA and the care of patients
  • Lead code set modernization efforts with the CPT panel and initiatives related to technology platforms, risk stratification, care coordination and outcomes reporting

Communication and Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Prepares AMA policy reports and issues/options briefs for senior management, Board of Trustees, and House of Delegates
  • Serves as staff support to CPT advisory groups, such as groups related to Value-based Care and AI medical services.
  • Facilitate cross-functional working groups, such as the Digital Medicine Coding Committee (DMCC) and other CPT code set modernization efforts
  • Develop stakeholder-facing deliverables such as guidance documents, educational roundtables and adoption monitoring reports related to AI and emerging technologies

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Health care related Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Public Health or Health Administration preferred
  2. 7+ years of experience including specialized healthcare policy experience such as reimbursement issues or other healthcare market analysis and planning
  3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  4. Knowledge of clinical coding standards such as Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), SNOMED, or ICD-10 required; CPT expertise highly preferred
  5. Experience with current healthcare, coding and reimbursement practices, including clinical and medical, vocabularies, classification systems, anatomy, and physiology required
  6. Working knowledge of terminology editing and mapping tools required
  7. Experience with developing reference models and ontological data structures preferred
  8. Previous experience with relational databases preferred
  9. Some travel required

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $116,739 - $154,760. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
