Description of Task to be Performed:
Come join our growing team and make a difference every day! AnaVation is seeking a highly skilled Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to lead the secure design, analysis, and testing of complex information systems. The ISSE will be responsible for ensuring that all system documentation, configurations, and risk mitigations align with federal cybersecurity requirements and best practices. This role plays a key part in evaluating and implementing security measures across both traditional and cloud-based architectures, contributing to enterprise security posture and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Design, analyze, and test secure information systems and products in compliance with applicable standards and risk frameworks.
* Maintain and ensure the accuracy of technical documentation, including: System Security Plans (SSPs), Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), Continuity of Operations Plans (COOPs)
* Create and update security test plans for detecting and mitigating risk to information systems. engineer and perform tests and test plans to satisfy audits
* Develop and maintain security test plans for identifying and mitigating risks to information systems.
* Engineer and execute security testing to meet internal and external audit requirements.
* Evaluate, validate, and implement corrective solutions for identified security risks and compliance findings.
* Apply security engineering methods, standards, and best practices to ensure baseline security controls are implemented and documented.
* Advise on a wide range of security activities, including:
o Establishing and validating system boundaries
o Assessing and classifying system vulnerabilities and deficiencies
o Responding to security alerts and evaluating the impact of threats and vulnerabilities
This position is hybrid, but will require regular trips to our customer location in Clarksburg, WV. Staff performing on the contract should live within commuting distance and reimbursement for travel will not be provided.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience: 10 years
  • Required Skills/Certs:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud security, including engineering secure architectures in AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Expert-level understanding of Cloud Security Providers (CSPs), including secure design, engineering, and automation of cloud-based solutions.
  • Ability to design and apply automated security controls across cloud infrastructure to support secure operations at scale.
  • In-depth knowledge of NIST RMF, NIST SP 800-53/171 controls, FISMA, FedRAMP, and other federal standards.
  • Hands-on experience with system hardening, vulnerability management, and security automation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, Terraform, or Ansible.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Working knowledge of agile development methodology specifically including Scaled-Agile Framework (SAFe), lean systems development, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodology
  • Proven ability to brief technical and non-technical audiences on complex security topics clearly and concisely.
  • Experience preparing written reports, whitepapers, technical comparisons, and oral presentations for internal and external stakeholders across varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Required Clearance:
  • Top Secret
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's degree. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of sixteen (16) years of hands-on relevant experience is required
  • Highly Desired - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Cloud Certification
  • Familiarity with tools such as Splunk, Tenable, Nessus, or AWS Security Hub
