Description of Task to be Performed:
Come join our growing team and make a difference every day! AnaVation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Information Security Specialist to join our cybersecurity team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our information systems. This role will plan, implement, upgrade, and monitor security measures to protect computer networks and systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in federal and/or state government environments, a deep understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, and hands-on experience with tools like Splunk and modern IT infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
* Plan, implement, upgrade, or monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information systems.
* Review and assess information systems to ensure that management, operational, personnel, and technical controls are functioning effectively throughout the system development lifecycle.
* Identify, analyze, and evaluate technical and operational security risks, threats, vulnerabilities, and weaknesses in systems.
* Ensure compliance with applicable government and industry standards
* Conduct independent, comprehensive security assessments of systems, including the evaluation of management, operational, and technical controls.
* Analyze and verify control enhancements, whether directly implemented or inherited, to determine their effectiveness.
* Respond to security incidents, including breaches, viruses, and system alerts; investigate and coordinate remediation efforts.
* Utilize Splunk for audit log analysis, threat detection, system alerting, and compliance monitoring.
* Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to ensure security is integrated into each phase of the development process.
* Provide recommendations and technical guidance on mitigating risks and improving security postures.
This position is hybrid, but will require regular trips to our customer location in Clarksburg, WV. Staff performing on the contract should live within commuting distance and reimbursement for travel will not be provided.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience: 6 years
  • Required Skills/Certs:
  • Minimum of six (6) years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity.
  • Strong knowledge and application of federal cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Experience with OWASP, DISA STIGs, Common Criteria, and SANS practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Splunk for monitoring, analysis, and reporting.
  • Solid background in networking, system administration and secure software development practices.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile or SAFe development environments.
  • Required Clearance:
  • Top Secret
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on relevant experience is required.
  • COMPTIA Sec+ or equivalent
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or equivalent
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud security best practices (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience conducting security audits or ATO packages
