HOURLY RANGE: $35.28

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
(This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job's overall responsibilities.)
  • Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
  • Performs transportation, cleaning, and fire watch duties supporting shipyard projects.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and minor on-the-job repairs of all tools associated with the Laborers craft, i.e., needle guns, rattlers, etc.
  • Performs general cleaning of the following: vessel, dock, sea valves, sea chest, chain locker and chains fore and aft peaks, void tanks, feed water tanks, aux. and main condenser, D.C. heater, portable air receiver, etc.
  • Responsible for knowing the proper procedures for the mucking out of tanks and bilge's and for the pressure washing of tanks and bilges.
  • Cleans for a gas free work area in way of hot work.
  • Works in a team environment.
  • Responsible for boiler and/or stack set up, pressure washing or steam cleaning.
  • Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property.
  • Incumbent performs similar work in all areas of the Yard as the need arises.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Recognize and resolve unsafe working conditions.
  • Ability to set up and monitor the operation of service pumps, i.e., keeping a pump from freezing, etc.
  • Familiarity with the general layout of a vessel and its tanks, spaces, and other compartments.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED preferred. 3 years relevant work experience. Proven skills, work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience.
Associate 1
Proficient in both Fire Watch and general clean up. Grinds pipe and structural steel under the direction of a Journey Level employee or Supervisor. Pulls leads and/or cable as directed. May also perform Fire Watch related duties. To progress to the next level, they must have three (3) basic Ship Repair Skills and acquire three more.
Associate 2
Proficient in both Fire Watch and Associate 1 job duties. Trains and assists with erecting and dismantling staging. Assists with and/or performs basic pipe bolting under the direction of a Journey Level employee or Supervisor. May perform Associate 1 or Fire Watch duties. Must acquire three (3) additional Ship Repair Skills to progress to the next level.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
  • Four-hour fire watch certification; annual respirator certification
  • HAZWOPER-First Response Awareness Level

  • Flexibility: Needs to be flexible depending on needs of other crafts people.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Works indoors: Frequently may be exposed to petroleum and petroleum by-products as well as grease, paint, fumes, dust, vibration, asbestos, free-silica, welding flash and noise.
  • Works outdoors: Frequently exposed to all kinds of typical Oregon weather.
  • Safety equipment required: Wears hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirator for jobs that require it.
  • Other Exposures: May be exposed to petroleum and petroleum by-products including grease, paint, fumes, dust, vibration, asbestos, free-silica, welding flash and noise.
  • Operation of equipment/tools/vehicles: Uses jackhammer, high-pressure hose/gun, fire extinguisher, power/hand tools, air tools, mop, shovel, broom, come-a-long, needle gun, pump (up to 100#), welding lead, discharge hoses 1 1/2" x 50', utility knife, power tools, flashlight, and rope/synthetic line, etc.
  • Required hygiene standards: Per company standards.
  • Other: None.
