What to Expect

The Megapack Site Controls team is looking for a passionate engineer to help Tesla facilitate the world's transition to sustainable energy. Our team is responsible for dynamics modeling, algorithm design, and simulation for our industrial products and integration with 3rd party devices. Our control system is a foundational building block for microgrids, and utility-scale power plants based on Megapacks, solar, and wind technologies. Our mission is to empower a seamless energy transition by delivering best-in-class power control systems.

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join this team, focusing on the development and improvement of utility-scale power plants and industrial behind-the-meter applications. In addition, you will help unlock new business for Tesla by creating globally adaptable controls that open access to energy markets around the world.

Our controls stack includes both industry-standard and custom-built software and hardware spanning embedded and server-side systems. Flexibility, an ability to understand and contribute to a diverse set of codebases and schematics, an eagerness to collaborate with stakeholders, and strong engineering leadership are key strengths we expect you to bring to the table.


What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with project, compliance, product and firmware/software teams to define requirements for new control behaviors
  • Develop and modify control algorithms, investigating corner-cases with simulations (Matlab/Simulink)
  • Verify control algorithms meet product requirements using HIL test setups (Typhoon)
  • Document and present designs clearly to gain organization buy-in
  • Train project and service teams on controls concepts and troubleshooting

What You'll Bring
  • Strong grasp of electrical engineering and control system fundamentals
  • Proficiency with modeling power system controls in Simulink, PSCAD or similar
  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Rust, Python or Golang
  • Familiarity with HIL tools such as Typhoon, OPAL-RT, dSPACE, etc.
  • Ability to communicate findings in a concise & clear manner and ability to work cross functionally with engineering, business development, and deployment personnel
  • A passion for sustainable energy

    Expected Compensation
    $111,200 - $200,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
