The Department of Medicine at The University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) is recruiting an exceptional Medical Oncologist with a focused interest in clinical care for patients with sarcoma, to join our faculty in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence, cancer research focus and an interest in education as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience. Cancer research focus would include health services or clinical trial research, and priority areas include genomics, precision medicine and cancer therapeutics. This position would be active in multi-disciplinary oncology programs. The academic clinician will be expected to engage in active collaborative research, build clinical trials and/or health services in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.


  • This position is full or part time, 80%-100%

  • This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.

  • The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

  • Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Professor (CHS), Associate Professor (CHS), or Assistant Professor (CHS). The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Clinical expectations include providing 60% direct patient care at UW Health locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending. This includes proactively supporting efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.

  • Academic expectations include 40% protected time to develop and teach a research or education program and to engage in related scholarly activity.

  • Our providers participate in clinical teaching of fellows, residents and medical students, and support the teaching and clinical research missions of the division and department.

  • Physicians hired on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

School of Medicine and Public Health / Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care

The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care at UW-Madison includes more than 60 faculty, over 40 Advanced Practice Providers, and 19 Fellows. The division's faculty leads cutting-edge basic, translational and clinical research programs. This research encompasses cancer biology, cancer prevention, screening and treatment, as well as survivorship and palliative care for patients impacted by solid tumors, benign and malignant hematologic conditions and those requiring stem cell transplant or cellular therapies.

Opportunities exist for pursuit of clinical research in candidate's area/s of interest. The candidate will lead dedicated disease-specific research staff and have access to substantial programmatic research funds. Clinical research is conducted in the UWCCC by 18 multi-disciplinary Disease Oriented Teams and is supported by the UWCCC Clinical Research Office. Over 170 UWCCC investigators regularly enroll patients to therapeutic intervention trials at our two UWCCC clinical sites. We are a member of the NCCN, ECOG- ACRIN, Alliance, BigTen Cancer Research Consortium, Wisconsin Oncology Network (WON) and Wisconsin Association of Hematology and Oncology (WAHO).

The candidate will have also access to many shared resources and opportunities to collaborate with basic, translational and clinical researchers at the NCI-designated UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), the VA Hospital and throughout the UW-Madison campus. Administrative duties including e-Consults, committees and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure independent funding to continue/develop their research.

Compensation:

Negotiable, 12 months.

Required Qualifications:


  • Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology or Medical Oncology from an accredited fellowship training program is required by the appointment start date.

  • American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)Certification required.

  • Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.

  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.

  • For an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor rank on the CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.

  • Clinical and research responsibilities with interest in sarcoma.

  • Experience in clinical, translational or basic science research, with a track record of successful publications in peer-reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, evidence of excellence in teaching and current or high potential to obtain extramural funding. Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.


Education:

MD, DO, or equivalent is required
