Job Summary

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to join our team of professionals.

Duties:

  • Manages the financial forecasting and budgeting of various units within the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) including budget development for new funding streams, gifts, and/or projects. Ensures accurate financial reporting, including allocation of expenditures and timely recording.
  • Supports the Senior Associate Dean and Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration in the development and execution of financial strategy, including the analysis of long-term revenue streams and expenditures. This includes timely communication of challenges/opportunities and recommendations.
  • Leads and maintains strategic relationships with department heads to drive key outcomes, proactively addressing operational and financial challenges to ensure optimal performance.
  • Develops and establishes operational and financial departmental procedures, policies and/or protocols to ensure compliance with University and COM guidelines and preparation of accurate financial reports.
  • Proactively engages in strategic communication and delivers timely, data-driven recommendations to resolve operational and financial challenges while capitalizing on improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborates closely with all HWCOM departments and plays a key role in coordinating functions managed by the Finance and Administration unit. Works in close coordination with finance liaisons and other stakeholders to deliver accurate, insightful financial and management reports that support expenditure tracking and strategic planningwhile proactively offering ideas and solutions to address emerging needs and challenges.
  • Leads the evaluation and analysis of department budget performance in close collaboration with department leadership, providing strategic recommendations for enhancements or new initiatives. Ensures effective execution of operational and strategic priorities with a strong emphasis on fiscal accountability, long-term sustainability, and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborates strategically with Central FIU to oversee budget management, financial reporting, and service contracting, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and compliance with fiscal policies.
  • Serves as primary liaison to FIU Foundation and the Department of Auxiliary and Enterprise Development team to investigate and resolve budget and expenditure variances on an ongoing basis.
  • Supervises assigned staff. Responsible for ongoing evaluation of employee performance, training and guidance.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned by supervisor. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Serves as the merchant account's primary contact or technical contact; Handles sensitive cardholder information and/or processes credit cards transactions for the department/unit; Will have access to a third-party system (software, gateway, etc.) that processes, transmits, and/or stores cardholder information.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline and six (6) years of experience in associated discipline or Master's degree and four (4) years of experience in related field.
