Job Summary

As a direct report to the Executive Director for Corporation and Foundation Relations, the Sr. Director of Development will assist in leading the university-wide approach to securing significant philanthropic support from corporations and foundations. The responsibilities will encompass providing comprehensive strategic direction for the development and implementation of fundraising programs, cultivating and managing relationships with key corporate and foundation partners and building robust alliances that advance FIU's vision, mission and campaign goals. The Sr. Director of Development will be a central resource, collaborating with development officers and academic leaders across the university to maximize opportunities for impactful partnerships.

Develops, plans, and implements a major gift fundraising strategy to secure corporate and foundation gifts. Manages all fundraising activities relative to industry partners as well as initiates, plans and coordinates the development of prospect and donor cultivation, proposals and letters of Inquiry, solicitations, and stewardship of gifts. Responsible for stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants from corporations and foundations Ensures gift fulfillment in the awarding and stewarding of funds established by charitable donations from corporations and foundations.

Establishes and proactively manages a portfolio of up to 150 potential partners, donors, and prospects whose profiles and FIU affinity make them likely to make a gift. Participates in university- wide prospect management, cultivation, and stewardship of donors and prospects. Develops and implements a strategic annual work plan and matrix to assist in identifying and managing the above.

Participates in and adheres to university-wide prospect management guidelines for cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Complies with University policies and meets minimum performance standards as well as achieves annual established goals.

Manages a portfolio of prospective donors, meetings, and other institutional performance metrics. Metrics include: the number and percentage of donors/prospects moved throughout the donor cycle, number of face-to-face meetings, number of solicitations, number of accepted solicitations, among others. These metrics will be evaluated every 3-6 months to determine fundraising strategies, execution, and measures of follow up.

Works in tandem with the Executive Director of Development for Corporate and Foundation Relations as well as college/unit development officers, deans, directors, chairs, and the Advancement Services area to advance relationships with donors and new prospects. Serves as liaison with internal and external leadership and volunteer groups in support of various corporate and industry partners.

Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive and strategic corporate and foundation relations partnership program in support of the FIU Foundation's fundraising goals and objectives. Identifies emerging philanthropic trends with special emphasis on high value opportunities and partnerships that align with FIU Foundation's Strategic Plan.

Identifies, cultivates, and works with donors and prospects, to secure philanthropic support of over $25K to support and promote FIU's mission and goals.

Provides leadership in the stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants related to advancement. Plans, oversees and manages donor stewardship activities.

Communicates effectively with the Advancement staff. Collaborates with other University Advancement team members to inspire trust, encourage creative thinking, and collaborate with other FIU staff and volunteers to significantly increase gifts to FIU.

Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits. Represents the University at public functions as needed. Displays honesty, integrity, and ethics to donors at all times in the performance of duties. Must also display a high degree of confidentiality.

Travels to meet with and personally solicit previous and potential donors on various campuses and businesses, locally, nationally, internationally, and throughout the community. Attends meetings, gatherings, or University sponsored events. Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of these duties.

Works closely with the Foundation's Marketing & Communications teams to ensure consistent messaging.

Collaborate, develop, and assist with implementation strategies for philanthropic and non-philanthropic industry partnerships, in support of the new College of Engineering Complex (CEC). Collaborates with Dean, External Relations, and Student Organizations to identify, establish relationships with, and approach potential investors. Consistently identifies and explores additional industry partnerships for the benefit of the College and FIU. Provide guidance to e-boards related to participation in external events. Work with student org leaders to participate in industry visits to campus.

Support CEC's participation in conferences by cultivating leadership-level industry partners to engage as speakers, exhibitors, or participants. Collaborates with college leadership to develop topics, engage with external stakeholders, in facilitation and provision of content and presentation materials. Identifies events and programs that will boost CEC student and faculty profiles to external stakeholders. Provide strategic guidance for engagement in Tech events. Attend events as appropriate and identify other FIU stakeholders to participate in these events.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields; OR fourteen (14) years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
