Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate for the Center for Effective School Practices (
CESP) within the Graduate School of Education. The Research Associate will support a range of applied research and community-based initiatives, contributing to both the implementation of research and evaluation projects and the operation of the Center. This position plays a key role in carrying out mixed-methods research and evaluation, project coordination, and public-facing engagement.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Conducts primary research activities, including interviews, observations, and focus groups, and assists with survey administration and design.
- Performs qualitative data analysis, from data entry and organization through coding and thematic analyses.
- Assists with literature reviews, concept development, and background research to support proposals, reports, and academic publications.
- Develops project-related materials such as recruitment flyers, information sheets, presentation decks, and digital content for dissemination.
- Supports community engagement and outreach efforts, including the coordination of events, technical assistance, and participatory research.
- Contributes to preparation and formatting of reports, policy briefs, and other dissemination products.
- Provides general administrative and operational support, including procurement, purchasing, travel coordination, documentation, and internal communication.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in the social sciences (e.g., education, social work, anthropology, or psychology), and at least three (3) years of experience working in the social sciences (e.g., education, social work, anthropology, or psychology); or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
CITI Certification in Social & Behavioral Research.- A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, audience-appropriate reports, summaries, and presentation materials.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, track progress, and meet deadlines across projects.
- Proficiency with common office and productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom) and comfort learning new platforms.
- Strong qualitative analysis skills, including the ability to apply coding frameworks and synthesize themes from interviews, focus groups, and observations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting, including with school- and community-based partners.
- Responsiveness, sensitivity, and professionalism in working and communicating with internal and external stakeholders, including educators, families, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree or higher in the social sciences (e.g., education, social work, anthropology, or psychology).
- Experience in qualitative research and/or program evaluation (e.g., interviews, focus groups, qualitative analytic methods) and in coordinating research activities or technical assistance (recruitment, scheduling, tracking, and reporting).
- Familiarity with research and analytical software (e.g., NVivo, SPSS, Qualtrics, Dedoose).
