Position Summary

Organization: New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

Location: 1801 Mountain Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104

An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have Work-Study Award

The Naturalist Center Assistant will support staff in
managing the center, caring for animals, and assisting with the Education
Department's collection. The assistant will also paly a role in outreach
activities as they are identified. This position works a maximum of 15 hours
per week (30 hours per two-week pay period).

Key Responsibilities:

Assist
staff and volunteers with organizing, identifying, labeling, and
cataloging specimens (geological, paleontological, and biological) for
educational user.

Store
labeled specimens using proper materials and methods to ensure
preservation and safety and enter specimen information accurately into databases
or spreadsheets.

Perform
routine care of live animals (reptiles, amphibians, arthropods), including
feeding, cleaning enclosures, changing water, misting, and maintaining
appropriate environmental conditions, cleaning aquariums, terrariums, and
other enclosures, including glass, bedding, and water sources, to uphold
hygiene and welfare standards.

Help
prepare animal food, maintain food inventory, and coordinate daily care
schedules with the team.

Engage
in light physical tasks such as lifting, reaching, or climbing short
ladders to access or store materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Comfort
working with live animals, including snakes and insects.

A foundational knowledge of biology, geology, paleontology, or animal care is beneficial.

Availability
to work weekdays or weekends between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
