Space Systems Engineer (MBSE) LOCATION: Los Angeles AFB, CA - USSF Space Systems Command (SSC) JOB STATUS: Full Time CLEARANCE: Top Secret (Required) Salary Range: $140K - $165K Astrion is seeking an experienced Space Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support the Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO) - Global Mission Operations (GMO) Space Integration Branch at the U.S. Space Force's Space Systems Command (SSC). In this role, you will leverage Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Modeling & Simulation (M&S), and Digital Engineering (DE) to shape and integrate mission-critical space system-of-systems capabilities across the U.S. Space Force enterprise. You'll work on high-impact programs that influence the future of space operations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Earth Science, Mathematics, Operations Analysis, or related field. 10+ years of relevant experience (exceptions considered for exceptional expertise). Proficiency in MS Office and adaptability to new analytical tools. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Willingness to travel as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Experience with space acquisition (military, contractor, or DoD civilian) in a SETA role. Familiarity with DoD acquisition lifecycle and JCIDS processes. Experience with SSC mission areas: SATCOM, PNT, Missile Warning/Tracking, Space Weather, C3BM, Space Superiority, ISR, Ground/Network segments. Hands-on experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Sparx Enterprise Architect, or similar platforms. Familiarity with SysML architecture modeling and data schema.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and maintain MBSE models, simulations, and digital engineering products to evaluate system-of-systems (SoS) and federation-of-systems (FoS) solutions. Build analytic frameworks and "day-in-the-life" scenarios to assess capabilities, identify modernization opportunities, and recommend system improvements. Conduct trade studies on candidate surface, air, and space mission systems; provide technical recommendations to leadership. Collaborate with systems engineers and government customers to translate mission requirements into robust, test-driven software designs. Support engineering management with disciplined processes that produce reliable, pedigreed products. Design, test, and maintain M&S and DE software tools; integrate SSC's digital ecosystem with SMC/BZ models. Utilize scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.) to automate tasks and extend MBSE tool capabilities. Apply data analysis and visualization tools (MATLAB, Power BI, etc.) to interpret simulation results and communicate findings. Contribute to capability development for MBSE software procurement, usage, and sustainment. Document technical solutions and present results to diverse stakeholders.
