Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm. We plan, design, permit, mitigate, and restore for projects across our communities, infrastructure systems, open spaces, and wildlands. We are 50 years strong in 21 offices across California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Southeastern United States. We are looking for an experienced, part-time Aquatic Scientistto join our NorCal team-someone with a passion for safely working on boats and a strong desire to conduct aquatic science field investigations. The position will be responsible for the safe operation of research vessels and provide leadership and oversight on technical field deployments. The Aquatic Scientist will also aid in ensuring that our team has the training, support, and functioning equipment necessary to conduct our work. Qualified candidates will have experience and professional certifications in boat operation, safety, and a strong background in the fish and aquatic science fieldwork. This is a part-time opportunity that will include approximately 70% fieldwork in the Central Valley and San Francisco Bay Area. Maintenance work may involve upkeep and repair of boats and scientific equipment at our West Sacramento warehouse, the Sacramento Marina, or elsewhere within the region. This position would commence on August 18, 2025. This role will support and/or lead a variety of job duties, primarily fisheries surveys/field work and other aquatic (e.g., water quality, hydrology) surveys. In addition to the safe operation of boats to support project work. The position will involve extensive fieldwork, both locally and potentially on overnight assignments. Who You Are

For this position, the range is approximately as listed based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details.
