Overview
Oversees the staffing and patient care operations for the section of accountability and covers, as needed, the other areas in the absence of respective staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs duties listed in the Lead Respiratory Therapist job description
- Coordinates patient care operations, maintains optimal staffing levels in relation to qualification and patient volume, and acts as a resource to staff on patient care concerns to ensure quality service and compliance.
- Train and develop staff to ensure retention of most effective employees by assessing needs and addressing performance and behavior strength/weakness through the timely use of coaching, feedback, performance appraisals, corrective actions, and termination procedures of staff.
- Monitor and assess patient and equipment during therapy, document pertinent patient information observed, troubleshoot equipment and intervene as warranted.
- Assists in the development and revision of department and protocol implementation policy & procedures, protocol forms, assessment grids, and caremaps as needed in order to maintain unrestricted TJC accreditation, compliance to the State of Illinois and Wisconsin, Administrative Codes and other regulatory agencies.
- Makes clinical rounds to the units to enhance departmental image and lines of communication with other departments.
- Investigates new patient service modalities, equipment and facility needs to continually upgrade services offered by Mercyhealth System.
- Assists Manager to effectively interview, select and hire staff as needed to maintain budgeted FTE's
- and accomplish department service/business goals.
- Assist in the annual preparation of budget and volume assumptions. Inform manager and medical director of physician/policy issues.
- Ensure adequate inventory of supplies and assist with the ongoing evaluation of equipment and supplies, submitting appropriate recommendations to manager.
- Oversees billing and charting activities to ensure the quality of data.
- Monitors equipment availability and staff knowledge of equipment use and repair, to ensure quality patient service. Serves as skills validator to ensure competencies of staff.

Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program Bachelors preferred Minimum 5 years clinical experience required Intermediate human resources management skills as evidenced through prior supervisory training and/ or experience Certification and Licensure RRT CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP IL and/ or WI Respiratory Care Practitioner license Skills and Abilities Good mathematical and interpersonal skills Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Supervises Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Supervises and supports Education Coordinator, Lead Respiratory Therapists, and Respiratory staff.
