Distribution Associate Lead

Leads daily distribution functions and provides direction to a team of employees. Independently, performs distribution functions, which includes mastering a variety of the following: receiving, put away, cycle counting, replenishments, picking, packing, shipping and/or performing clean up. Additionally, investigates and resolves discrepancies independently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Responsibilities:



  • Leads the day-to-day distribution functions which may include assigning work schedules, assigning tasks, monitoring quality, providing advanced troubleshooting on more complex issues, and ensuring schedules are followed.
  • Manages fluctuating workloads of team members to ensure effective departmental operations. Alerts leadership of any significant coverage gaps.
  • Trains team members and acts as a resource to team members by assisting with problem resolution and providing informal coaching. Provides input into team members' performance appraisals and alerts leadership of any performance problems. May provide input on hiring or other human resources functions.
  • Ensures high levels of safety and housekeeping standards are upheld.
  • Daily metrics collection. Leads will provide daily metrics related to their functional area.


Advanced knowledge and skills in more than one of the following functions:



  • Receiving: Receives incoming products/materials, performs initial inspection, confirms arrival, resolves discrepancies and enters into ERP system.
  • Inventory: Counts the number of units in inventory and maintains proper stock levels. Investigates simple to more complex discrepancies between expected and actual quantities, adjusts the number of units in inventory when a discrepancy cannot be resolved. Conducts inventory transfers, rotates stock, and receives parts within the system.
  • Picking: Accurately prioritizes and picks items from designated locations using picking tickets or other reports. Verifies and confirms customer orders, SKU's and the quantities picked are accurate while following any special instructions. Ensures picking locations are replenished in accordance stocking requirements.
  • Shipping: Enters order/shipping information into the system and affixes shipping labels/packing slips to packages. Packs boxes into pallets and confirms orders when they are ready. May assist in performing final assembly on products prior to packing. Determines method of shipment, obtains freight quotes, and contacts freight carrier to schedule pickups. Packs and organizes orders/boxes for shipment, verifies for accuracy, follows any special instructions, and includes necessary paperwork and/or accessories. Loads/unloads trucks, move pallets and load products onto pallets using a forklift. Contributes to ensuring customers are satisfied by delivering undamaged products. May perform a daily inspection of the forklift and basic maintenance.


Other:



  • Assists coordinating the introduction of new merchandise into the existing distribution center by receiving, preparing and assigning new bin location. Relocates obsolete and/or high velocity SKU's to new locations in JDE.
  • Ensures each shipment is evidenced by accurate domestic and international shipping documents - bill of lading, commercial invoice (as needed), shipper's export instructions and packing lists.
  • Meets established production and quality goals efficiently and accurately.
  • Continuously identifies and proposed procedures and processes to improve service, safety and profitability.
  • Maintains good relationships with team members and cross-functional departments. Apply initiative to help meet company goals, as well as help to move the company forward.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school education or equivalent.

Experience: Typically requires 5 years of diversified experience in competently performing multiple distribution functions.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Demonstrated attention to detail, good planning and time management skills, great listening skills and the ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Ability to be self-directed to complete to more complex tasks with limited direction from a supervisor.
  • Ability to safely operate and use warehouse equipment such as a forklift, reach truck, order picker /or and pallet jack.
  • FedEx, UPS and other shipping software knowledge.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively provide daily guidance and direction.
  • Ability to accurately master a variety of tasks with limited direction from a supervisor.
  • Ability to follow all policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Basic computer skills to track and log information into computer systems and Microsoft Outlook (or similar email applications).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with a variety of individuals including direct and written communication with drivers and customers to provide information, ensure accurate delivery and solve a variety of simple to complex issues.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed (requirement varies by location).
  • Ability to load/unload trucks. May be required to operate a forklift at some locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely lift 50 pounds.
  • Utilizes proper techniques for lifting, packing and unpacking, handling heavy objects, climbing ladders and pushing/pulling.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to frequently use repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Compensation range $23.00 - $30.00 per hour (depends on prior experience).
