Job Summary
The Supervisor, Transportation Operations is responsible for the direct supervision, functional support, and training of teams responsible for Over-the-Road (OTR) and Inter-Modal Dispatch dispatch and transportation management operations.
Primary Objectives
- Supervise the day to day activities of the dispatch/transportation team for timely and effective performance of all duties including those related to Full Container Load (FCL), OTR and local, drayage, rail operations and OTR/local trucking, rail billing, and track/trace processes.
- Monitor, track, and analyze key performance metrics (KPIs).
- Proactively identify, prevent, and resolve escalated transportation and dispatch disruptions and operational complexities to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Develop, document, and implement processes, procedures, guidelines, and related training for assigned staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and delegate activities of the dispatch/transportation team ensuring timely and effective performance of their duties as relates to Full Container Load (FCL), OTR and local, drayage, rail operations and OTR/local trucking, including rail billing, track/trace, and service performance.
- Manage, monitor, and facilitate ongoing staff training and the effective use of the Transportation Management System (TMS) platforms.
- Develop and ensure compliance with operational processes to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Monitor freight movement activities including customer service levels and operational interaction with ports and port warehouses.
- Collaborate with and support regional dispatch as needed.
- Coordinate with port operations personnel and supervise the Dispatch Rail Coordinator, especially regarding rail billing processes, best practices, and on-dock/off-dock rail opportunities as they relate to maximum cost efficiency and customer transit time requirements.
- Work with the Dispatch Rail Coordinator and SeaLogix to support off-dock drayage requirements, empty equipment assignment to bookings as needed, and other coordination needed port operations.
- Develop and lead effective daily track & trace procedures to include proactive communication to Sales and other internal or external customers the status of booked loads.
- Coordinate with Equipment Management team to ensure adequate availability at inland Container Yard (CY) network.
- Recommend, review, and participate in the implementation of TMS enhancements, updates, EDI, and system interfaces.
- Manage Hawaii Neighbor Island and Oahu forced carry movements along with Young Brothers Gate Reporting.
- Recommend operational strategies to optimize freight costs within agreed service levels.
- Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with vendors.
- Communicate with vendors on invoice disputes and rate negotiations.
- Supervise and maintain the consistent accuracy and up-to-date information of all transportation management systems applicable to the dispatch/transportation team.
- Assist with coordination all accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) requirements applicable to assigned operations/carriers in close coordination with senior leadership and AP/AR associates.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, International Business, or related field or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred
Work Experience
- 3+ years' progressive experience in an operational role within the freight, transportation, rail, inter-modal or other maritime-stressed capacity required
- Operational experience in managing transportation in and out of port operations required
- Leadership experience strongly preferred
