Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering will lead a multidisciplinary team of technical experts to support engineering projects and manufacturing operations for medical device products. This role is responsible for lifecycle management of products and systems, strategic upgrades, and remediation programs. The position also oversees systems implementation (SCADA, data collection), automation, controls, mold design, packaging, and project management, ensuring compliance with company policies and strategic objectives.



  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of engineers across various disciplines.
  • Lifecycle Management: Own the lifecycle of products, machines, and control systems.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategies for system upgrades and remediation.
  • Systems Implementation: Lead SCADA and data collection system deployments.
  • Automation & Controls: Oversee automation and control systems for manufacturing.
  • Design & Packaging: Direct mold design and packaging engineering efforts.
  • Project Management: Ensure timely and compliant execution of engineering projects.
  • Compliance & Validation: Ensure equipment and processes meet regulatory and internal standards, including process validation.
  • Specification Development: Define specs for new or modified equipment/molds.
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with operations to meet site goals and equipment needs.


Responsibilities: Essential Duties




  • Collaborate with stakeholders in support of manufacturing to establish user requirements associated with new equipment purchases and/or modifications.






  • Partner with stakeholders, team members, equipment design vendors and various internal resources in support of sustaining and growing the business model. This includes products, facilities, equipment, supply chain, services, staffing, operating procedures, policies and standards.






  • Establishes all user requirements associated with the design of new production lines, including individual pieces of manufacturing equipment.






  • Responsible for FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ and Commissioning of new equipment/molds and processes.


  • Works collaboratively with R&D in the establishment of equipment required to produce new products.

  • Ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies as appropriate.



    In collaboration with Human Resources, oversee and direct all performance management, training, development, job descriptions, and safety procedures for all Engineering personnel.





* Assists director in leading and managing engineering activities so that the organization's buildings, facilities, machinery and equipment operate reliably.

* Plans, prioritizes, schedules and manages engineering activities (for example planned maintenance programs, shutdowns or emergency repairs) to rectify break downs and malfunctions and minimize business disruptions.

* Develops and assists with implementing engineering, production, and maintenance procedures; monitors the cost and effectiveness of activities to optimize resources, priorities spending and achieve timeliness, reliability and safety standards.

* Researches, evaluates and recommends new maintenance equipment and tools to enhance the capabilities of the maintenance team.

* Evaluates, selects and manages relationships with external contractors (for example builders, electricians) to minimize costs and ensure the organization receives satisfactory standards of service.

* Liaises with functional or operational area managers throughout the organization (for example in production or branch, store, facility or plant managers) to coordinate scheduled maintenance activities with their operations.

* Estimates the cost, time and resources required for repair/upgrade projects; prepares work orders and monitors the progress of work against estimates.

* Where applicable plans, directs and monitors preventative and corrective maintenance and repair activities so that the organization's electrical system, building management system and firefighting protection system operate reliably.

* Responsible for personnel actions including hiring, performance management and termination.

  • Demonstrated experience within an engineering specialty(s) area.


    Understanding statistics and its application in Engineering.



    Knowledge of GMPs both basic and unique to the department's specialty(s) area.



    Knowledge of statistics (SPC, CPK, AQL, etc.)


    Understanding of quality by design.




    Excellent understanding of manufacturing methods related to the department specialty(s) area.


    Project management skills stressing business, quality and customer requirements.




    Preparation of a business cases and project prioritization.




  • Requires breadth of professional field and industry knowledge. Ability to integrate critical information and champion advanced strategies/concepts through the organization. Drives development of advanced technologies, principles and processes.
  • Manages activities of a functional area which has at least 2 departments or major functions through managers and/or experienced employees. Responsible for cost, method, and employee results.
  • Judgement is required in resolving complex problems based on experience.
  • Represents the organization as a prime contact on projects and departmental operations. Interacts with internal and/or external clients and customers to negotiate and interpret information on projects and unit operations. May consult with senior management.

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience, Master's degree preferred.

Salary Range: $136,992 - $195,703
