Overview

As a Machine Vision Sales Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to drive sales of machine vision solutions by leveraging your technical expertise, industry knowledge, and excellent communication skills. A Machine Vision Sales Engineer is expected to have a deep understanding of our Machine Vision cameras as well as imaging principles, and be able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Regular customer visits and trade show attendance is expected to represent the Marketplace business, estimated 15% travel. This role will also require ample time in the lab to develop customer solutions, demos, and content, estimated at 30%.



Responsibilities

Machine Vision and Imaging Expertise: Develop a deep understanding of all cameras and related software.

    Stay updated on industry trends and technology advancements.
  • Attend internal and external trainings as appropriate.
  • Represent Marketplace Imaging business at tradeshows and industry events.

Sales & Customer Solutions: Work closely with customers to understand their unique requirements and propose product solutions that meet their technical and business needs.

  • Develop machine vision setups in the lab to image customer samples and identify solutions.
  • Follow-up on new leads through phone calls, emails, and other communication channels. This includes incoming quote requests, tradeshow leads and 3rd party leads, among others.
  • Manages and organizes all individual activities such as customer visits, opportunity follow-up, sales pipelines, call/visit report summaries, etc.
  • Work closely with other members of the sales team to provide technical expertise during the pre-sales process, including product demonstrations, presentations, and addressing technical inquiries.
  • Provide direct customer support for machine vision inquiries via phone, email and chat. Act as a backup for Product Support coverage as needed.
  • On-site customer visits as needed.

Merchandizing and Content Creation: Provide valuable feedback, guidance and support to Marketplace Product, Merchandizing and Marketing Teams to improve marketing on Machine Vision cameras across all channels.

  • Create high-quality written content for our website, including articles, white papers, tutorials, and case studies, to educate and engage our audience on machine vision applications and best practices
  • Create videos for our website in support of the written content, and to ensure that content aligns with corporate messaging and contributes to overall marketing goals.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of webinars, workshops, and other educational events related to machine vision technologies.

Training and Support: Create and maintain training materials and documentation for internal and external use

  • Work closely with Camera vendors and other imaging suppliers to organize regular trainings with global sales and engineering teams.

Market Research: Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities, and threats within the industry. Analyze competitor activities and market dynamics to inform business strategy.

  • Evaluate Edmund Optics' capability to support new and non-traditional machine vision camera technologies.


Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
  • Results-oriented with a track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
  • Machine Vision knowledge/industry experience required.
  • Proficient in CRM and SAP to adequately support the customer.
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) required.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or hard science; formal training in sales, negotiations, and management highly desirable; minimum of two (2) to five (5) years experience in technical and/or business-to-business sales.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time; ability to travel; work in office setting.

Compensation Range Transparency:

At Edmund Optics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The posted salary range for this role reflects the expected base pay. The actual offer will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, work experience, business needs, and geographic location.

Salary Range:
$75,000 - $80,000 per year
