Director, Security, Parking & Transportation
Job Summary The Director, Security, Parking and Transportation is responsible for directing, managing, and maintaining the operational and financial aspects of the Security-Police Services, Parking-Transportation, and Ambassador Programs for the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland medical center and off-site locations, ensuring the personal safety and security of patients, employees, visitors, and the protection of property and assets. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $98,300 - $210,300 (Annual Rate). Department Description The UCSF Security Services Division strives to ensure the safety and security of learners, staff and patients inside and outside of UCSF properties, clinics and health facilities. They assist UCSF PD to provide a crimefree and safe environment through the highest level of professional services, integrity, respect and excellent customer service.
The UCSF Security Services Division is a Division in the UCSF Police Department. The UCSF Police Department's overriding mission is to enhance the safety and quality of life for students, faculty and staff across the UCSF system. By working in partnership with the community, UCSF PD strives to promote public safety and crime prevention through education and enforcement; to maintain public order while preserving the legal rights of all individuals; to provide efficient and courteous service; and to reduce the impact of crime.
The UCSF Police Department is known for its community service orientation, effectiveness at preventing crime through campus community involvement, and for providing a safe living and working environment for the promotion of education, research and public service.
The Security Services Division provides site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at university and contract locations.
Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children's Hospitals; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute (LPPI). UCSF is considered one of the nation's premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Criminal Justice, Safety Administration, Emergency Management, or a combination of education four years of job related experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- Five or more years of security management experience.
- Three years of hospital management experience.
- Knowledge of IAHSS Basic Security training courses.
- Knowledge of regulations regarding hazardous materials, fire codes, building codes, and all other relevant safety requirements. Ability to interpret and apply regulations as issues arise.
- Proven ability to perform, train and supervise all aspects of security function.
- Skills to work collaboratively and coordinate others. Ability to communicate with a multi-cultural population.
- Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and to actively listen, advise, and counsel.
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills and good judgement. Ability to quickly evaluate issues, identify options for resolution and solve problems under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information.
- Good decision making skills and the ability to exhibit firmness with understanding with visitors and staff.
- Ability to think and act independently, possess strong reasoning and problem-solving skills, and make sound and timely management decisions
- Collaborates with the development of annual capital and operating budget to ensure current needs and anticipated changes are addressed.
- Administers departmental budgets within allocation. Ensures staffing reflects necessary coverage.
- Prepares productivity and budget performance reports and assists managers with corrective action plan on a regular basis, minimally once a month.
- Develops and manages operations and capital budget(s) including effective use of materials and services.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain cooperative work relationships with hospital departments and external agencies and to direct the activities of the Department of Security.
- Analytical ability necessary to effectively review and evaluate the medical center's overall compliance with security & safety standards and regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in federal and state compliance requirements in governing security, safety, risk management, and transportation systems.
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of California Penal Code.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a timely, courteous and professional manner.
- Exceptional presentation and training skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including management, clients, and employees
- Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases to include excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of organization, HR and UC policies and processes.
License/Certification
- Security-related training and professional affiliation.
- Current Driver's License issued by the State.
- American Hospital Association compliant CPR BLS within 90 days of employment
