THE POSITION

The Juvenile Department is currently looking for our next Bilingual Senior Juvenile Counselor - Regions to help us work towards the mission of protecting the public by reducing delinquency and restoring victims and the community by holding youth accountable.

The Opportunity:
The Bilingual Senior Juvenile Counselor will be directly involved in the Regions Unit for Beaverton and Hillsboro. They will work with their Supervisor to oversee and staff high risk and complex casework, with gang impacted youth, and provide feedback on policy and procedures regarding their unit. This role mentors and coaches Regions staff while acting as a team leader in the absence of the supervisor. They will provide positive and constructive feedback to their supervisor about employee performance. They will also train and couch new staff and provide court guidance and support. They will work with supervisors on community presentations and collaborate with community partners.

Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will be efficient in managing paperwork and timely task completion. They will possess exceptional organizational skill, will be detail oriented, and have history of meeting case management benchmarks, deadlines and expectations. Ability to manage high risk cases and being heavily involved in the community with community providers and ability to do juvenile presentations in the community is a must. They will assist in creating a positive and supportive work environment, enforce a safe workplace, and establish a culture of teamwork and communication. Spanish and English bilingual language skills are required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or a field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND two (2) years of experience working with juveniles and families in the counseling and case management of juveniles and families, with at least one (1) of those years of experience leading staff, projects, or special assignments; OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or a field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND four (4) years of experience working with juveniles and families in the counseling and case management of juveniles and families, with at least one (1) of those years of experience leading staff, projects, or special assignments; OR
  • Associate's degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND six (6) years of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families, with at least one (1) of those years of experience leading staff, projects, or special assignments; OR
  • Eight (8) years of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families, with at least one (1) of those years of experience leading staff, projects, or special assignments.

Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities, and Specialty Requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check post-offer.
  • Must pass a written and oral proficiency language test in Spanish.
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

  7. Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
