General Summary

Directs and oversees daily operations of drug distribution for the department in concert with management and pharmacist staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize, delegate, and oversee work assignments. Improve efficiency through systems and controls. Contribute to administrative policy development. Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise staff; monitor performance and enforce discipline as needed.

  • Administer hospital and departmental policies. Support strategic planning with data analysis and reporting. Advise Operations Manager and assist with goal-setting and departmental planning.

  • Fill and deliver inpatient and outpatient medication orders. Dispense medications using computer-generated lists and physician orders; collect and deliver medications per schedule.

  • Prepare and compound medications, including TPNs, chemotherapy, and IV solutions. Mix specific doses and concentrations; label and document as required.

  • Conduct quality checks, reconcile medication records, and resolve discrepancies. Maintain logs and perform equipment checks. Liaise with inpatient units to ensure accurate medication distribution and review patient therapies with nursing staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education/ Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association.
  • Completion of a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy approved training program or a minimum of 500 hours worked as a pharmacy technician trainee

Experience:

  • 5 years of Pharmacy Technician inpatient experience.
