Position Description:

The University of Iowa College of Nursing seeks applicants with a strong foundation of teaching in an undergraduate pre-licensure program and incorporates active learning strategies. Academic year (9-month) positions are available (50% effort or greater) with teaching psychomotor skills and simulation in the Nursing Clinical Education Center.

Areas of teaching expertise of particular interest include:





  • Adult/Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Obstetric Nursing
  • Teaching with active learning strategies including simulation

Education Requirement:


  • Earned master's from an accredited school of nursing (doctorate degree preferred)


Required Qualifications:


  • Expertise and experience in adult medical surgical nursing, obstetric nursing, or pediatric nursing.
  • Evidence of potential in teaching in nursing which can be demonstrated through clinical practice, experience in classroom or clinical teaching (including as a teaching assistant), staff education/development, precepting, earned teaching certificate, advising, mentoring, or other means.
  • Evidence of potential to contribute to departmental and collegiate service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated by the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships.
  • Eligibility and ability to obtain and maintain licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa. Selected candidate must complete the State of Iowa Registered Nurse licensure process upon appointment.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Professional service to nursing/health organizations.
  • Clinical experience and expertise in adult medical surgical nursing, obstetric nursing, or pediatric nursing.
  • Previous experience in lab or simulation.
