JOB OVERVIEW:

This role is a key member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team, charged with shaping and executing bold strategic and tactical initiatives that elevate our Food Safety, Quality, Safety, Regulatory, and Environmental programs across Blue Diamond Growers' operations. This leader ensures that our standards are not only met but consistently exceeded-both internally and with our Co-Manufacturers and licensee partners, reinforcing our reputation for excellence and trust.

As a technical authority, this individual represents Blue Diamond Growers, engaging customers, growers, third-party agencies, and industry partners with credibility and influence. They drive cross-functional collaboration across Business Units and sites, ensuring seamless implementation of high-impact projects, training, and processes that deliver on our core commitments: Safety, Quality, Service, Cost, and People.

This leader cultivates a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, developing both functional and leadership capabilities across the enterprise. They inspire teams to challenge the status quo, embrace innovation, and deliver results that matter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Leads the planning, developing, and implementing systems that maintain the highest Food Safety and Quality levels for the Cooperative and that differentiate BDG products from the competition.
  • Leads the Safety and Environmental function to ensure our programs are developed and executed in a manner that meets or exceeds all regulatory expectations while building a culture that treats safety as a value and strives for zero injuries.
  • Leads key initiatives relating to our network optimization project including but not limited to; identifying a solution for our almond testing area, our micro and chemistry lab, effective onboarding of co-manufacturing partners, and supporting asset optimization that could introduce other allergens and nut types.
  • Develops functional excellence and leadership capabilities within the function and across Global Supply.
  • Identifies and implements productivity initiatives that achieve lowest total delivered costs while achieving a balanced scorecard in safety and quality.
  • Develops direct and indirect reports into a high-performance work team through engagement, training, coaching and talent development.
  • Represents the Company with industry groups i.e., The Almond Board of California with respect to quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures policies, programs, and practices at BDG comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards concerning Environmental, Food Safety and Human Safety.
  • Partners with Operations in reviewing product specifications, establish procedures and techniques for control of quality standards, direct inspection services, and liaise with customers to define and resolve product quality problems.
  • Partners with commercial teams and manufacturing to resolve quality issues that will fully meet the customer requirements.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Microbiology.
  • 15 years or greater of managing quality systems for a food or CPC manufacturing facility.
  • Strong leader with high interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills. Demonstrated ability to be strategic in thought and ability to implement the plan.
  • Track record of successfully delivering results at both the Plant and Company-wide levels.
  • Executive leadership skills to define and champion best practices in Quality Assurance, Food Safety and Food Security.
  • Demonstrated success having driven and achieved results from both corporate staff as well as from the operations site level.
  • Proven track record of delivering superior business results in fast-moving business and regulatory environments.
  • Strong technical leadership background with demonstrated success in leading and developing technical capabilities within an organization.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Able to work effectively on teams and in various leadership roles. Communicate to a wide range of employees to meet business unit and operations objectives.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Able to make proactive decisions which impact BDG cost, quality and customer service.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • Masters of Science or MBA.
  • SQF Practitioner Certification.
  • Experience that involves multi-site scope.
  • Passion and experience for engaging employees at all levels of to drive business results.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 6-15

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to physically move throughout food manufacturing facilities, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas.
  • Required to sit/work at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Required to travel throughout Central Valley of California. Occasional US and International travel will be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is conducted in a corporate office setting with regular travel to production, vendor, and customer facilities.
  • Must be able to work in a plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, dirty work conditions, fumes and odors.
