Senior Database Architect (Data Specialist / Engineer - Master) Job Summary B&A is seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Architect (Data Specialist / Engineer - Master) to lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise database solutions. This role requires deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, large-scale data migration, and ETL processes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for architecting and implementing robust, scalable database schemas and supporting data integration activities in support of enterprise content management systems, such as OpenText. Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and manage SQL Server database solutions to support enterprise applications and data services.
- Lead the implementation of database schemas, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and performance optimization plans.
- Perform large-scale data migration and integration activities using industry best practices and proven ETL techniques.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, security, and availability across platforms.
- Collaborate with solution architects, application developers, and business analysts to align database architecture with application requirements.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex database performance and scalability issues.
- Support database lifecycle management including backup and recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery planning.
- Document database architectures, processes, data flows, and related technical specifications.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in database administration and architecture with Microsoft SQL Server.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience in large-scale data migration, including extract, transform, and load (ETL) operations.
- Proven track record of implementing robust database schemas and managing schema evolution in enterprise environments.
- Strong SQL programming skills including T-SQL development, performance tuning, and query optimization.
Desired Skills
- Experience integrating or supporting OpenText ECM platforms such as Content Suite, AppWorks, or Archive Center.
- Familiarity with data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, Microsoft Visio).
- Experience with data warehousing, business intelligence platforms, or analytics tools.
- Working knowledge of data governance, data quality, and metadata management best practices.
- Exposure to secure environments (e.g., HIPAA, DoD, or FedRAMP-compliant systems).
- Certifications in SQL Server, data architecture, or ETL tools are a plus (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer, MCSA: SQL Database Development).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong documentation and organizational skills
