Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Chancellor is vested with complete authority, subject to the direction of the President of the UNC System. The Chancellor is responsible for carrying out policies of two governing boards: the UNC System's Board of Governors and the University's Board of Trustees. It is also the responsibility of the Chancellor to make recommendations to the System President regarding academic program development, personnel matters (subject to policies of the Governors and Trustees), and budget development. The Chancellor maintains wide discretion in decision-making with regard to student affairs (subject to the policies of the governing boards) and other aspects of the administration of the University, as provided under the General Statutes of North Carolina and the UNC Code.
Position Summary
Position reports directly to the Chief of Staff to the Chancellor, and operates at the Chancellor's Residence, Quail Hill. Position works in concert with and supports the Chancellor and Special Events Office and the University Development Events Office teams, with related University departments (e.g. UNC Facilities Services, Movers), and with on-site Grounds and Landscaping manager.House manager possesses strong communication skills; is attentive to detail; is observant and capable of anticipating the needs of the property, Chancellor and guests; is a problem solver, energetic, enthusiastic and fosters collaborative relationships. The House Manager ensures that all aspects of the household are maintained with an emphasis on preparation for events, visitors and overnight guests. The House manager will perform housekeeping duties, facility project management, and support special events at the residence as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
House manager possesses strong communication skills; is attentive to detail; is observant and capable of anticipating the needs of the property, Chancellor and guests; is a problem solver, energetic, enthusiastic and fosters collaborative relationships. Accuracy Required in Work: A high degree of accuracy is essential in all aspects of this position. Ability to visually inspect the Chancellor's residence to determine areas needing attention and assure that work is completed promptly. Ability to ensure that all events are successfully coordinated.Guides, Regulations, Policies and References Used by Employee: The employee functions under the guidelines of the policies and procedures of the University.Supervision Received by Employee: Minimal supervision is received by the employee in the day-to-day operations. Also receives tasking during informal discussions, memorandums, telephone, and e-mail.Variety and Purpose of Personal Contacts: It is essential that this position interacts and maintains a good rapport, on a daily basis, with the Chancellor, caterers, facilities staff, and visitors.Machines, Tools, Instruments, Equipment and Materials Used: This position must be capable of operating a vacuum cleaner, duster, mop, broom, brushes, or other cleaning equipment, and cleaning chemicals including all purpose cleaners and disinfectants, floor care chemicals, and related cleaning tools and materials. Ability to use a computer, printer, calculator, cell phones, and operate a motor vehicle.Dynamics of Work: This position is expected to change direction as needed to meet the needs of the Chancellor.NC Driver's License or ability to obtain one
