Position Description:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the Pediatric General Surgery service as a member of the Department of Surgery- Pediatric General Surgery.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients requiring surgical management.
  • The Advanced Practice Provider will assist in the operating room, manage patient's clinical are in the inpatient environment (both ICU and general care floor) in collaboration with our pediatric surgical team.
  • Participation in administrative or non-clinical activities (CHW, CSG, MCW) as required
  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Pediatric General Surgery service.
  • Functions as first assist in the operating room and/or independently perform procedures within scope of practice.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, professional associates, and current literature.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Preferred Schedule: Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs. Includes weekends, holidays and call as scheduled.

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a Advanced Practice Provider in a surgical inpatient setting preferred.

Required Experience: No experience required.

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
