Department OverviewOur customers are public safety agencies, governments, and military organizations that use our mission-critical communications systems. The Security Update Service team, part of the Motorola Solutions cybersecurity services organization, protects mission-critical systems by ensuring security updates are verified, tested, and installed. Job Description

As a hybrid security update service technician, you will be responsible for applying monthly and quarterly operating system security patch updates to mission critical systems and ensuring they are protected from cyber threats. This position will follow documented processes to ensure that critical infrastructure is returned to service as soon as possible in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify and apply security patches and updates for Windows and Linux based operating systems, VMware solutions, and other technologies

  • Troubleshoot system and network issues that result from updates

  • Work directly with customers to provide reporting and status of updates

  • Communicate relevant patch information with customers and other teams

  • Coordinate with Motorola and customers for scheduled maintenance

  • Perform preventative maintenance checks to ensure proper system operation

  • Hands on experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems

  • High level knowledge of networking concepts (i.e. network devices, IP addresses, ports, and protocols)

  • High level knowledge of virtualization concepts (VMWare ESXI)

  • Experience performing troubleshooting, break fix, or technical support on Windows or Linux operating systems

Preferred Skills:

  • Hands on experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong networking experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system subscribers and infrastructure, performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25 and data infrastructure.

  • Maintain, optimize, test, and document complex communications systems.

  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.

  • Develop complex subscriber code-plugs that are customized to the customer's specific requirements.

  • Remove, install, troubleshoot, repair, preventative maintenance, and/or modify LMR subscribers in a company-owned service center or at a customer site.

  • Conduct training at the service center or at field locations.

  • Create operation manuals and documents for procedures and specifications, prepare job tickets, material request, and trip reports.

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results

  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must have a current, valid driver's license and no traffic violations

  • Must be willing to travel both CONUS and OCONUS

  • U.S. Passport is desirable or be willing to obtain one.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain security clearance as required by government.

  • Experience with one of the following: P25, LMR, Smartnet, SmartZone, RF infrastructure, ASTRO systems, radios and consoles.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and Motorola Radio Programming Software suite.

  • Excellent customer communications skills and always present a professional image.

  • Ability to work with little to none supervision.

  • Very strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).

  • Proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges.

  • Capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.

  • Strong knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks

  • Strong knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet switching techniques

  • Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access

  • Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola's customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams

  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision

  • Able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations

  • Total familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques

  • Must be capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.

  • Must have a FCC GROL License or CET Associate or higher certificate

  • Ideally the individual should have at least one network certification: Network +, CCNA, NRS1

Specific Knowledge/Skills:

  • 2 year Associate's in Electronics or IT preferred

  • 6+ years field experience as a System Technician.

  • Experience with various RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems and networking equipment.

  • Unique combinations of both strong multi-site RF communications system and IT, computer/networking skills are required.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate high level systems expertise and have a minimum of 6 years of related experience with the following equipment:

  • Motorola Subscribers (APX series)

  • Motorola Base Stations (Consolette, GTR series, Quantar, etc.)

  • Centracom Consoles (Gold Elite, MCC7500, MCC7100)

  • Computer IP Networks and Configuration

  • Experience working with RF Infrastructure Technologies to include Motorola SmartZone, Smartnet, Console Systems, ASTRO Conventional and Trunked equipment is strongly preferred

The ideal candidate must have excellent skills in the use of various communications test equipment including:

  • Communication System Analyzers (Site Masters)

  • Ethernet Link test sets

  • TIMS (Transmission Impairment Measurement Set)

  • Digital RF Power Meter

Individual must have a superior knowledge of one or more of the following: Motorola Conventional, SmartNet, Centracom and MCC Console systems, Secure Operations and ASTRO A7.x Digital systems and installation procedures.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $56,900 - $105,300 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

  • High School diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or Technology
