The Department of Biology is seeking bi-weekly parttime employee to work in the Drosophila Culture Media Lab (Fly Kitchen). This position helps support the department's research and teaching labs which use Drosophila (fruit flies) as subjects in genetics experiments. The flies are cultured in glass vials, bottles, and jars, which are reused. Key Responsibilities: The position consists of two parts, production and recycling. The food is made every Tuesday and Thursday, and the returned glassware is recycled on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesdays and Thursdays you must be able to work from 8:30am to 3:30pm, these hours are not flexible, this is when the fly food is made. For the recycling portion, however, the scheduling is very flexible. It can be done at any times as long as the work is done by 8am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It typically takes between five and six hours per week to keep on top of the recycling influx for a total maximum of 20 hours per week. This position will pay $12.50 per hour. Desired Qualifications: * Demonstrated laboratory experience with sterile techniques and use of standard laboratory equipment. * Experience working with Drosophila. * A Bachelor's degree in Biology or Life Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired
