Primary Responsibilities |
In iSSAC:
Main responsibilities include providing vision and strategic direction for all iSSAC operations, student support, retention, and success through academic advising, proactive co-curricular development, and campus collaborations to promote student professionalization. The Assistant Dean regularly attends school meetings for each of the two academic schools and meets individually with the academic program heads to collaborate, educate, and inform faculty on advising issues. Cross-college coordination and co-leadership on university-wide advising issues and initiatives is also central.
Beyond iSSAC:
The Assistant Dean will play a lead role in the COI's first year experience programs, with coordination and staffing of
INF 100: Orientation to College of Informatics and, where needed, restricted
UNV 101 sections which do not include declared
COI majors. There will be opportunities for this position to teach either a first-year seminar or a professionalization/experiential learning course.
The Assistant Dean is also responsible for oversight of the recruitment of new students to
COI with consideration of unique populations such as first-gen, adult learners, transfers, etc. In addition, this role plays a part in the retention of students through co-curricular programming and experiential learning.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Has oversight of all professional staff in the
COI Advising Center which includes a cross functional team. Works to establish a set of policies and procedures informed by data trends and best practices that will allow the iSSAC to optimize its role in promoting student success at the university, staying abreast of new trends in advising that would allow iSSAC to continuously improve. Handle exceptional student issues and concerns such as undergraduate students seeking reinstatement or late adds/withdrawals.
- Work with
COI academic schools and allied units such as Enrollment and Degree Management, Student Success, the Academic Affairs Assistant and Associate Deans' Council, Advising Council, Student Affairs, Career Services, the Norse Network Hub, and the Office of International Student and Scholar Services. Monitor student degree progression and graduation, applying university policies, administer internships and co-ops, and respond to student concerns.
- Oversee the efforts of the
COI Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention which includes strong collaboration with Admissions, School Directors, and Faculty to deliver high impact and high yield events and practices. Be responsible for staffing Admissions' events, student-focused outreach event, and relevant college/career fairs in the region.
- Coordinate and collaborate on COI's first year experience. Deliver and coordinate all new student orientation/registration days, including extended orientation programming. This also includes collaboration of
INF 100: Orientation to College of Informatics for a task group, efforts, and expansion. Plan special events such as new student welcome sessions and
INFO-
EXPO to help students connect and find a sense of
belonging.
- Coordinate and collaborate on COI's co-curricular student experience. This includes oversight of retention efforts such as Registration Campaigns, proactive outreach to students through targeted efforts, success workshops, pilot programs, etc. Coordinate delivery of academic honors certificates for fall and spring semester (i.e. Dean's List, Scholar's List, President's Honors List).
- Coordinate Informatics Student Success and Advising Center programs with First year Student Success Hub, Advising Leads, Adult and Transfer Center, and other
NKU colleges and offices as appropriate. Ensure the center works with department co-op/practicum faculty coordinators to advise students into practicum/internship/co-op courses.
- Serve as member of the
COI Leadership Team (directors, associate dean, et al), participating in the formation and execution of the college's strategic agenda, writing background briefs and support memos as needed. Represent the
COI Dean's Office at various campus meetings and committees and support the Dean and Associate Dean on related tasks and responsibilities.
- Continually refine a communication plan for the center, ensuring that its communications (website, printed materials, e-newsletters) are up-to-date and useful, and be responsible for content on social media outlets appropriate for the Center's messages to students (current and prospective).
- Continue to develop best practices and cohesion in the
COI to better serve our students and continue to advance and innovate around student success.
- Manage Informatics Student Success and Advising Center operating budget and resource allocation.
- Represent the College of Informatics as needed on university-wide strategic initiatives such as coordinated care, strategic enrollment management efforts, outreach committees, etc.
