Job Title: Overnight internist for inpatient psychiatry Institution: NYU Grossman School of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry Location: Bellevue Hospital Center, Department of Psychiatry Inpatient Services Position Type: Full-Time, Inpatient Psychiatry Nocturnist (After-Hours) Reports To: Director of Medical Psychiatry Services & Chief, Department of Psychiatry Job Summary: The Inpatient Psychiatry Nocturnist is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care and medical consultation to patients admitted to psychiatry during after-hours shifts at Bellevue Hospital. The Nocturnist will play an essential role in coordinating medical care for patients in the Psychiatry ED and inpatient psychiatry units, working collaboratively with psychiatric attendings, nurse practitioners (NPs), and registered nurses (RNs). This position requires expertise in internal medicine and psychiatric care integration. Key Responsibilities: Provision of Medical Care: Provide medical care and consultations for psychiatric patients in the inpatient psychiatry service and psychiatric emergency department (Psych ED) at Bellevue Hospital during overnight shifts. Medical Clearances: Conduct History and Physical exams for psychiatry admissions requiring medical clearance. After-Hours Consultation: Provide timely consultation for any after-hours medical concerns raised by the psychiatry team. Communication & Handover: Ensure accurate sign-out of patients and relevant medical information to the day team at the conclusion of shifts. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all activities are following hospital, departmental, and NYU policies. Maintain up-to-date credentialing and complete required assessments and health documentation. Document patient encounters and medical interventions thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR), adhering to all accuracy standards. Schedule and Time Expectations: The Nocturnist will work full-time overnights in one of the following schedules: Friday - Sunday Thursday - Saturday Additionally, there may be opportunities for compensated coverage outside the salaried hours. Education: Medical degree from an accredited institution. Training: Completion of training in Internal Medicine at an approved institution. Skills and Competence: Strong clinical skills to ensure competent performance of specified duties in the psychiatric inpatient setting.
