We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual for a full-time Research Laboratory Technician position in Dr. Melis Anahtar's laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Our lab is broadly interested in developing novel diagnostics and therapeutics to combat antibiotic resistant infections. The candidate will play a key role in developing next-generation, sequencing-based molecular diagnostics, including bacterial culture, nucleic acid extraction, molecular assay optimization, and nanopore sequencing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of sexually transmitted infections with near-term translational potential.
As part of the daily responsibilities, the Research Laboratory Technician will: - Culture and maintain bacterial strains in the laboratory, adhering to strict safety protocols. - Extract nucleic acids from bacterial isolates and clinical specimens. - Perform and optimize experiments using a variety of molecular assays, including qPCR and nanopore sequencing. - Maintain accurate lab records. - Analyze and present data under the supervision of senior researchers. - Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot experimental procedures. - Contribute a productive and collegial laboratory environment, with participation in journal clubs and lab meetings. Education Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology or a related field required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Yes Licenses and Credentials Experience - Recent graduate with some relevant coursework and 0-1 year's experience preferred. - Prior experience in a wet lab environment (including coursework). - Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic research environment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and procedures. - Careful attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks. - Computer literacy, including database tools. - Ability to follow directions and exhibit professionalism.
