Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist I to work within the Wadsworth Center's Division of Environmental Health Sciences. The incumbent will analyze clinical samples for selected agents of chemical terrorism utilizing various analytical methods on instruments such as Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The incumbent will also maintain appropriate laboratory documentation, prepare quality control samples, process data, prepare reports and standard operating procedures, and participate in other appropriate related duties.

This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and two years of research experience; OR a master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an analytical organic laboratory.

• Experience with sample preparation and analysis of complex sample matrices (i.e. blood, urine, food) for organic chemical analysis.

• Hands on experience and in-depth knowledge of gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS), liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS), solid phase extraction (SPE) and other related techniques.

• Experience with analytical chemistry method development and validation.

• Experience working within a CLIA-regulated laboratory performing high complexity testing, reporting patient test results, writing CLIA-compliant SOPs, preparing for CLIA-audits and inspections, and other activities related to the clinical quality management system.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, may be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.
