Job Summary

Under general supervision from the Production Manager, work at the Mondavi Center as a member of the Production Department team to plan, coordinate, advance, implement, and oversee technical production details and logistics for live performances, theatre productions, and other events at the Mondavi Center, including Jackson Hall, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre and other event spaces. Responsible for advancing shows and events; liaises between artist, artists' management and technical staff, rental and internal clients, and the Mondavi Center's technical, front-of-house, and programming staff to clarify production requirements; determines rehearsal/performance schedules, crew needs, and call times, and schedules the crew for these calls; serves as on-site contact for road crews, tour management, and artists during their Center residency; acts as stage manager for performances and may call show cues; records billing data and produces utilization reports. Leads and participates in varied crew calls for performance and non-performance events. Assists with all areas of technical staging, including lighting, sound, rigging, and carpentry, when necessary; coordinates these activities in the absence of other lead technical staff. Assists with the enforcement of safety practices and secures facility when not in use. Assists with selection and training of part-time and student crew.

This position is 0.75FTE over period of 9 months, with 3 months of unpaid furlough.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Experience evaluating technical theatrical needs of guest artists/companies based upon production specifications.
  • Experience advancing technical theater performance logistics.
  • Experience performing at least two areas of technical theater work (lighting, rigging, sound, or carpentry) in a professional, non-volunteer capacity.
  • Experience working cooperatively with widely varied professional, semi-professional, and community arts groups regarding technical requirements of staging performances.
  • Experience reading and interpreting stage drawings (e.g. blueprints, sketches, schematics, ground plans, or sections).
  • Knowledge of industry standards in show and event coordination practices with experience acting as a lead to technical theatrical employees.
  • Interpersonal, oral and written communications skills to effectively communicate with Mondavi Center stakeholders and constituents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing the Internet, word processing, electronic billing system, spreadsheet, and other software programs to complete professional assignments.
  • Experience applying project management principles to define goals, organize and schedule complex projects, and coordinate project execution.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and managing special events in regards for technical requirements for university groups in a large non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Cal-OSHA standards regarding theatrical safety.

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
  • Restricted vacation during peak periods. Work a flexible schedule and overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays in support of the Mondavi Center's event schedule. Safely function in low-light and unlit stage environments. Work in high-pressure situations with tight deadlines. Work on ladders, personnel lifts, catwalks, loading bridges, and theatrical grids up to 100' above the stage floor. Detect visual and audio problems. Repeatedly lift and carry a minimum of 65 lbs. utilizing safe lifting and moving techniques. Work during events, performances, and rehearsals may require standing for long periods.
