DIRECTOR - U MARKET, PRINTING, AND GENERAL SERVICES

Position Description
The Director of U Market, Printing, and General Services is responsible for providing leadership and overall management of the departments of U Market Services, Printing Services, and Addressing and Mailing Services. These units successfully deliver procurement, materials management, logistics, print production, graphic design, print sales, copy services, and addressing and mailing services functions on the Twin Cities campus and, in some capacities, to all five system campuses. The Director is charged with providing leadership for business operations and day-to-day
management, oversight, and direction of the department with an annual operating budget of $20 million and a team of approximately 70 FTE. The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Services and serves as a member of the Auxiliary Services leadership team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Leads the overall strategic and operational activities for U Market, Printing, and General
Services, including management, oversight, and direction of these operations.
* Drives innovation and transformational change to support achievement of service
excellence, strategic outcomes, sales growth, and revenue optimization.
* Creates a culture of accountability and ownership, by establishing the vision, strategy and
departmental goals.
* Builds and fosters a positive work environment, incorporating the university's commitment
to equal opportunity and recruitment, retention, and promotion of a diverse workforce,
empowering employees to use their full range of talents and abilities.
* Champions the University's sustainability goals and initiatives, including procurement- and
logistics-related issues central to all five campus climate action plans.
* Provides leadership for the University's procurement efforts, including negotiation of major
contracts. Serves as the subject matter expert for procurement, distribution, inventory,
print, and mail related procedures and processes.
* Builds a strong working partnership with key university leaders, stakeholders, external
partners, and vendors; represents the university on university-wide committees, initiatives,
and in the community.
* Cultivates and nurtures an environment that values and promotes customer service and
emphasizes a customer-centric approach in all day-to-day operations.
* Enhances employee engagement by driving and supporting the development of action plans to address issues. Promotes and sustains an employee-focused work environment.
* Provides leadership in improving processes that enhance collaboration and service delivery
to meet current and future needs of the campus community, identifies and secures new
business opportunities, partners, and customers.
* Ensures the overall performance (financial, service, productivity) of these units, including
development and oversight of annual budgets, revenues, and expenditures.
* Provides short- and long-term strategic planning related to the development and delivery of
initiatives, products, and solutions that support the University's three-part mission.
* Develops and implements programs, policies, and initiatives which contribute to an
exceptional campus experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The position requires a significant physical campus presence. The Director works both in an office setting and in the field. Such field work may occur during various hours of the day, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus at least twelve years of experience; a masters or doctoral degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
* At least eight eight years of relevant experience in a large, public university or similarly
complex and diverse public or private enterprise.
* Able to effectively navigate a large and complex public institution with the ability to form
positive working relationships across the institution.
* Previous experience and a successful track record in senior management and leadership
positions.

* Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of establishing effective working
relationships with diverse populations and functions, both internal and external to the
organization.
* Demonstrated record of taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of

* Ability to build and lead a high-performing management team.
* Demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders to create a culture of service and
continuous improvement.

* Ability to make sense of and communicate complex, high quantity, and sometimes

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $120,000-150,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
