Job Overview
The Vendor Manager at T-Mobile is an individual contributor role. The Vendor Manager - Forward Supply Chain is accountable for end-to-end governance of T-Mobile's third-party logistics (3PL) operations across the National Distribution Center (NDC) and Market Staging Locations (MSLs). This role ensures 3PL partners deliver against contractual obligations, meet service level agreements (SLAs), and operate in compliance with internal standards and regulatory expectations, including SOX. Rather than manage execution, this leader drives performance accountability, executes Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) cycles, and leads strategic process improvements across all 3PL-managed operations-ranging from inventory control to fulfillment and returns.
Job Responsibilities:
- Govern all 3PL operations including inventory movement, staging, fulfillment, returns, and material disposition; track SLA performance and escalate deviations.
- Drive Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) planning for recurring issues such as inventory discrepancies, shipping errors, damages, and compliance failures.
- Identify systemic risks, lead root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes across 3PL workflows, not just react to daily issues.
- Enforce contractual obligations, SOPs, and control standards across NDC and MSLs to maintain audit readiness and operational integrity.
- Conduct structured 3PL governance reviews, align internal stakeholders, and push continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, error rates, and cycle times.
- Develop reporting and dashboards (PowerBI, Oracle/SAP) to provide visibility into operational health, risk areas, and compliance performance.
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, related field or equivalent experience. (Required)
- Master's/Advanced Degree Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field (Preferred)
- 2-4 years Implementing strategic planning and best practices in procurement and risk management Required
- 4-7 years Managing and optimizing relationships with vendors in a corporate setting Required
- 4-7 years Analyzing vendor costs and managing budgets to achieve cost savings and efficiency improvements Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 3PL Operations Oversight (End-to-End) - Experience managing performance and compliance across all logistics workflows including inbound, outbound, returns, and warehouse operations.
- SLA Enforcement & Preventive Governance - Strong discipline in holding vendors accountable to contractual KPIs and proactively addressing gaps before they escalate.
- CAPA and Root Cause Leadership - Skilled in conducting structured root cause investigations and driving sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Compliance & SOX Control Alignment - Working knowledge of internal control standards, documentation accuracy, and audit preparation in logistics environments.
- Reporting & Executive Communication - Ability to build and present performance scorecards, trend analysis, and escalation frameworks across leadership levels.
- Strategic Planning - Ability to develop and implement strategic plans that align with organizational goals and optimize vendor relationships. (Preferred)
- Negotiation - Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and manage costs effectively in vendor contracts. (Required)
- Analytics - Proficiency in analyzing vendor performance metrics and cost data to identify improvement opportunities. (Required)
- Microsoft Excel - Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and financial modeling related to vendor management. (Preferred)
- Communication- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal stakeholders and vendors. (Required)
- Leadership- Leadership skills to guide and influence internal teams and manage relationships with strategic vendors. (Preferred)
- Experience using Warehouse Management System (WMS) (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Certification from APICS that demonstrates knowledge in supply chain management and operations, which is crucial for overseeing vendor relationships and optimizing procurement processes. (Preferred)
- Supply Chain Management (CPIM) Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM): This certification from APICS shows expertise in production and inventory management, aiding in the effective management of vendor-supplied goods and services. (Preferred)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management Institute that indicates proficiency in project management, which is beneficial for managing contracts and projects involving multiple vendors. (Preferred)
