About the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Georgia Institute of Technology

Job Summary

A Research Scientist position (open rank) is immediately available in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Georgia Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will fulfill current commitments of the iCOOL center, written in its specific aims to derive measures for the minimum information needed to produce the simplest folds, using information present in extant folds. The primary responsibilities for this position will center on the emergence of protein folds as a problem of information demand, emphasizing the proteins associated with the emergence of Translation and to fulfill current commitments of the iCOOL center. Candidate will also assist in the supervision of Research Assistants attached to this topic and will participate in all iCOOL Center activities.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position will center on the emergence of protein folds as a problem of information demand, emphasizing the proteins associated with the emergence of Translation and to fulfill current commitments of the iCOOL center. Candidate will also assist in the supervision of Research Assistants attached to this topic and will participate in all iCOOL Center activities.

Required Qualifications

This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.1-research-faculty-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines)

Research Scientist II

  • A Master's degree, and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master's degree, and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.

Senior Research Scientist

  • A Master's degree, and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master's degree, and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree, and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications

Must be an expert in origins of life theory and is a Co-I of the Center for Integration of the Origins of Life https://sites.gatech.edu/icool/team/
