What you'll be doing...

You'll join the network equipment repair and quality team where you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the wireless and wireline network repair and quality operation. All Verizon returned network hardware comes through our team where we test and repair in order to re-certify and reuse this equipment which saves the company nearly three hundred million dollars in new purchase cost avoidance each year. You'll be part of a team of individuals who work daily with OEMs, third party vendors, warehouse logistics partners, field operations and internal engineering teams to process a high volume of repairs and improve quality to bolster network reliability. The fast-paced environment you will join will require you to provide quick turnaround for AD-HOC operational requests and reporting to support day to day operations. Customers expect our networks to perform at a high level all the time. That's where you come in.

The role is split into two key aspects, hardware test development, validation and qualification as well as hardware field quality support and continuous improvement. For the test development and validation aspect of the role, you will be working in partnership with our internal network engineering teams, OEM's and third-party vendors in order to implement proper testing and repair protocols at our different repair facilities that ensure equipment high quality and reliability when hardware is redeployed to the field. The candidate should possess an excellent understanding of test engineering fundamentals and proven knowledge of network hardware functionality. You will need to have knowledge of industry standards (3GPP) and procedures to assess and analyze product quality performance of wireless and wireline products consisting of 3G/4G/5G/CBAND RAN network hardware, switching and transport central office equipment, power and routers.

While maintaining day to day operations is imperative, you'll also develop and manage large scale transformational projects/programs for the optimization of the operation and its quality. Working across the company, you'll use your analytical expertise to identify trends, issues and opportunities, all with the goal of improving the customer experience and finding ways to make our business even better. You will also leverage your analytical skills to mine and transform large data sets to provide KPI visibility to senior management. Turning data into knowledge and actionable improvements for both the repair and quality operations

  • Understanding of network system performance monitoring tools and applications to better align our testing and quality work to field deployed equipment. (Includes XPT, 5GPT, IOP, ATOLL, RTT, AirWave, VSM, Samsung's USM, Ericsson's ENM, AMOS, Nokia's WebEm, NSP, WPS, RAVs)

  • Deep understanding of industry 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) standards and how they relate back to hardware testing.

  • Lead cross-functional efforts to develop and deploy the most efficient and reliable test and repair protocols for field returned hardware during our internal re-certification process. This will include:

    • Partnering and negotiating with OEMs to develop software tools and/or processes in support of our internal test and repair process

    • Partnership and management of third-party vendors to implement and operationalize test and repair processes

    • Run qualification and validation efforts in partnership with VZ engineering and field teams prior to deploying any test and/or repair solution for hardware. This includes proper data analysis and Gage R&R initiatives.

    • Good understanding of CAPEX and OPEX cost structures as well as great negotiation skills in order to ensure Verizon receives the most optimal cost per unit price structure.

    • RF areas related to 3G/4G/5G parametric testing in a radiated environment

    • Proven project management skillset to provide detailed repair project plans and timelines with the ability to prioritize projects, establish realistic timelines/milestones and achieve cost and schedule results.

  • Resolving field HW quality issues and failures, investigating and resolving customer complaints, often through troubleshooting workshops, field visits, and lab efforts to replicate the customer experience.

  • Lead initiatives to deliver reductions in field expense related to 'no trouble found' (NTF) and repeat returns.

  • Identify further opportunities for new growth within Clean & Screen Operations and technologies.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience in network hardware functionality and design.

  • Experience in project management, organizational and time management.

  • Experience multi-tasking on several high priority initiatives.

  • Experience with data analytics and the use of database tools such as Oracle/SQL, tableau-based dashboards, 1ERP, SAP, S4, and COEP.

  • Experience with purchase orders and Inventory management.

  • Experience with Excel, OBIEE reports, Splunk, Tableau, Minitab, MS-Visio, or MS-Project.

Even better if you have...

  • BS in Engineering or related field.

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or an MBA in a related field.

  • Working knowledge of RF, Baseband, ME and SW components.

  • Analytical skills with successful experience in securing and analyzing large volumes of data to make functional improvements and recommendations.

  • Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Vendor management experience.

  • Project Management experience, including experience with cross-functional and/or cross-Area projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of Verizon RAN network products.

  • Superior quantitative, problem-solving, technical and analytical skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $107,000.00 - $205,000.00.
