Facilities Management at the University of Virginia is seeking a Trades Master to support weekend operations within the Housing Zone. This role is essential to ensuring reliable, cost-effective maintenance services for Housing & Residential Life (HRL) facilities, which include 7,000 beds across 180 buildings and over 3 million square feet of occupied space. Our portfolio includes single-family homes, traditional residence halls, and apartments. Trades Masters are highly experienced, technical experts in one or more trades. They are accountable to performing advanced repair, and maintain mechanical equipment and systems by applying uniquely proficient professional knowledge. They install and examine equipment to diagnose issues, disassemble machines, repair or replace broken parts, and proactively perform maintenance. They are continuous learners, motivated to seek and apply new techniques in order to improve efficiencies and effectiveness. They are responsible for mentoring, instructing, and coaching those with less technical knowledge, experience, skills, and proficiencies. Trades Masters serve a distinctive business need, operating with significant autonomy, and are trusted to oversee projects, appropriately prioritize service, and engage stakeholders accordingly. Management is consulted in extremely unusual or complex situations, and Trades Masters will provide constructive guidance that offers solutions to achieve quality results. Trades Masters develop and sustain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers and the University community, able to work independently as well as to serve as a leader of teams.
