Physician Assistant or Acute Care NP, RNFA - GYN/GYN Oncology OR

Shift: Full-Time (40 hours)

Schedule: Days (NO weekends, holidays, nights, call)

Excellent full-time opportunity available for a physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner with registered nurse first assistant to join our Gynecology and Gynecologic oncology teams of highly-trained surgeons with access to the latest technology, treatments, and state-of-the-art facilities at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Johns Hopkins Hospital is an urban teaching hospital consisting of 1,100 beds with a medical staff of 2,100 full time physicians plus many more APPs. Summary

The Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking an Advance Practice Provider (APP) to collaborate within a multidisciplinary health team, serving as a first assistant in robotic and laparoscopic cases.

In this role, the provider will work in the operating room with gynecological oncology and minimally invasive gynecological surgeons (MIGS) as a surgical first assistant in robotic and laparoscopic cases. Some assistance with open cases may be required. Responsibilities encompass perioperative management.

Accountability for time management, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions is integral. Participation in continuing education programs, committee involvement, and adherence to hospital policies and procedures are expected.

Responsibilities



  • Evaluate patients in preoperative area, verify history and physical is accurate and updated, place preoperative orders as needed.





  • Ensure all required equipment is available for cases, position and prepare patient for surgery.





  • Perform surgical techniques such as entering abdomen, inserting ports, placing uterine manipulator, docking robot, troubleshooting robot or other equipment, bedside assisting and exchanging robotic instruments as needed, performing cystoscopy, closing fascia and skin, applying appropriate dressing





  • Transport the patient to the post-anesthesia care unit, place appropriate post operative orders, and perform handoff with surgical team.





  • Effectively communicates, coordinates, and collaborates in the implementation of plans of care with nursing staff.





  • Maintains appropriate patient records. Documents treatment plans, historical and physical findings, consults, teaching and counseling in compliance with hospital and clinical standards.





  • Comfortable with surgical techniques and patient care; surgical experience preferred. Interested in learning advanced concepts in acute perioperative and postoperative management.





  • Practices in accordance with the standards for the practice and defined by the appropriate governing board.





  • Works independently and in collaboration with attending physicians, resident physicians, and other advanced practice providers. Educates trainees in surgical techniques.





  • Facilitates and actively participates in departmental meetings, continuing medical education programs, research, publication, and quality improvement projects.





  • Performs related duties as assigned.



Qualifications



  • Self-motivated individual who is adaptable, a quick learner, and is confident working independently





  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.





  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Masters or Doctorate in Nursing, Acute Care NP.





  • For Acute Care NP, certified as an RNFA.





  • Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA).





  • OR experience, at least 2 years, preferred.





  • NPI number, DEA and CDS required.





  • BLS, ACLS required.

Salary Range: Minimum $53.15/hour - Maximum $82.38/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
