INSTRUCTIONAL COACH - LITERACY (PREK - GRADE 2)

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Coach - Literacy (PreK-Grade 2) candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners and leaders.

The Instructional Coach - Literacy (PreK-Grade 2) is a non-evaluative, non-supervisory teacher position who works with district personnel and teachers to support the implementation of district-adopted curriculum and resources to meet the goals of the MPS Ambitious Instruction plan. The Instructional Coach - Literacy (PreK-Grade 2) will use knowledge of state standards, early literacy and language development, data, developmentally appropriate practice, culturally responsive pedagogy, and adult learning principles to provide coaching and training to teachers in PreK to Grade 2 to aid them in planning and delivering highly effective lessons that close the achievement gap.

Eligible candidates must have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
• A minimum of five (5) years of successful, fully licensed teaching experience in early childhood, defined as birth to 3rd grade
• A current license in either Early Childhood/Middle Childhood Education OR Elementary/Middle Level Education
• Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring teachers at the school level, e.g. committee chair, grade level chair, mentoring new teachers, leading professional learning

Candidates with the following education, skills, or experience are preferred:

• Full LETRS training
• Teaching experience in Milwaukee Public Schools
• A Master's degree
• Additional licensure in Reading (1316), Bilingual (1023), or Special Education (1801)
• Demonstrated knowledge of and success with culturally and linguistically responsive teaching, equity-focused instruction, and general cultural competence.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional learning in early literacy and early childhood topics

• Analyzes, interprets, and utilizes formal and informal student assessment data to drive coaching conversations with teachers.
• Builds trusting relationships with teachers and school leaders to facilitate change, plan strategically, and distribute leadership.
• Provides effective, formative feedback to teachers as part of a student-centered coaching cycle.
• Implements a variety of in-class coaching strategies, based on the results of observation data, that could include: co-teaching, modeling, observing, and debriefing so as to improve instruction.
• Designs and facilitates professional development at the district, school, and grade/department.
• Understands, monitors, and supports implementation of developmentally appropriate practices and district-adopted curriculum with fidelity.
• Maintains professional knowledge of coaching approaches and strategies.
• Works collaboratively with teachers, district level coaches, and school and district leaders to achieve goals and develop resources that support high quality instruction.
• Supports teachers in planning developmentally, culturally, and linguistically responsive group and individualized lessons.
• Accurately maintains and shares calendars, schedules, and records; efficiently completes paperwork and assignments.
• Assists in structuring effective classroom environments, routines and interactions that enhance social relationships, student motivation and engagement in productive work.
• Provides targeted instructional support in AGR classrooms within grade band (K5 - Grade 2).
• Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
• Performs additional responsibilities as requested.

The Instructional Coach - Literacy (PreK-Grade 2) salary schedule starts at $60,987.04 and increases according to the set salary schedule based on education beyond the required bachelor's degree and previous years of fully-licensed K-12 teaching experience.

Salary range: $60,987.04 - 114,217.31 (1D - 200-day calendar)
