What we're seeking: As a Network Engineer III within the Core Backbone Engineering team, you will be responsible for the engineering, deployment, and support of IP core and aggregation network infrastructure. This role is critical to maintaining a highly available, scalable, and redundant backbone network. You will work closely with peers, leadership, cross-functional teams, and external vendors to support major expansions, new hardware turn-ups, and technology migrations. This position includes hands-on and remote engineering work, as well as periodic travel to data centers across the U.S. to support key projects and deployments. What you'll do: * Engineer, plan, and deploy Core Network routers and related infrastructure to support network growth and resiliency. * Ensure high availability and redundancy across backbone and aggregation networks through sound architectural and physical design. * Lead the physical and logical design of power, space, cooling, and fiber requirements for router deployments. * Develop and review Method of Procedures (MOPs), detailed engineering packages, and documentation for new builds and migrations. * Provide remote or on-site guidance for equipment installation and provisioning. * Investigate, evaluate, and test new network hardware and software solutions. * Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues across 100G and 400G circuits, including optics and fiber-level diagnostics. * Collaborate with vendors, data center providers, and internal field teams to ensure timely and accurate implementation of network solutions. * Support FOA (First Office Application) implementations and contribute to standardization efforts across the network. * Assist in hardware upgrades and capacity expansions on existing infrastructure, including cross-connect design and fiber assignments. Some of which we're most proud to offer includes: * Salary Range: $80,000 to $120,000 * 20 PTO (Paid Time Off) days + 10 paid holidays per year * Day one medical, dental, vision and prescription drug plan * 401k match of 50% on 6% of eligible compensation * Tuition Assistance Program * Personal & Work Life Balance Resources & Wellness Support Assistance * Employee Resource Groups * Same-sex spouse and domestic partner benefits coverage * 10 weeks of paid parental leave, & a phased return to work program for new parents * Up to $10k in adoption program assistance * 3 weeks of paid caregiver leave What background you should have: * 7+ years of experience in IP networking within a service provider or large-scale enterprise environment. * Strong understanding of Layer 2/3 networking concepts, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), and IP/MPLS architecture. * Familiarity with Layer 1 transport and optical networks and how they integrate with Layer 2/3 infrastructure. * Hands-on experience or detailed knowledge of racking/stacking routers, cabling, and physical infrastructure best practices. * Proficiency with major vendor CLI environments (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia preferred). * Experience working in or with data centers (e.g., Equinix, Digital Realty, CoreSite). * Ability to create detailed engineering documentation and communicate deployment requirements clearly to remote teams or contractors. Preferred Qualifications: * Certifications such as JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, CCNA, CCNP, or Nokia SRA/NP. * Experience with Power BI, network automation frameworks, and reporting tools. * Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex IP/optical issues and coordinate multivendor escalations. * Familiarity with structured cabling and fiber testing tools.
