We are looking for a SeniorElectrical Engineer to support mining operations by working on critical electrical assets. The role may have an Electrical, Controls, power, or Instrumentation emphasis. The successful candidate will support and report to the Surface Mine portion of Rio Tinto Kennecott.

Rio Tinto Kennecott is a fully integrated mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, US. Kennecott is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. For more than 110 years, Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich orebody of the Bingham Canyon Mine. This role is a great opportunity to join a truly global mining organization and be involved in the technical electrical support of mining operations. Reporting to the Maintenance Planning and Engineering Superintendent, you will be:

  • Providing support to electrical mining equipment by learning the systems and processes, keeping up required maintenance on those systems, troubleshooting failures, and making improvements for a more sustainable operation.
  • Planning relevant safety requirements into all activities, tasks and projects based on assessed hazards, identified critical risks and mitigating actions
  • Contributing through applying technical/professional knowledge to solve complex problems and recommend solutions
  • Ensure technical drawings, equipment, and installation practices are within standards and code
  • Assisting in the maintenance and reliability of mining shovels, blast drills, unit subs and electrical infrastructure
  • Undertaking engineering investigations and providing clear recommendations for management action
  • Participating in continuous improvement by identifying and implementing activities which will enable the increase in production or the decrease of downtime events
  • Ensuring site compliance with the electrical engineering standards and reviewing the standards on a regular basis

What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, or other relevant related technical field
  • At least 4 years of experience in mining, industrial, or large plant manufacturing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Word, Excel, MS Project
  • Previous leadership experience around technical/engineering teams

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience with Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Controls is preferable.
  • Broad understanding of electrical power distribution systems of low, medium and high voltage
  • Experience with control systems including Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Experience in AC/DC motors and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of electrical software tools and systems
