The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is the only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center headquartered in Arizona and one of only 57 such centers in the United States. We are dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education.

We are seeking an experienced Biostatistician to provide independent advanced statistical and data management support for University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) investigators in translational, clinical, and population-based research studies. The primary duties of this position are to provide strategic study design, data management, statistical expertise, and scientific manuscript preparation. A key component of the position is providing data management, statistical analyses,and reporting for the UA Cancer Prevention Clinical Trials Network (CP-CTNet). This requires extensive expertise in clinical trial data processes, quality assurance, and regulatory/statistical reporting. The ideal candidate will independently collaborate with UACC and CP-CTNet investigators throughout the country to ensure high-quality data analyses and transparent reporting.

Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment. If you are selected for this position and are employed to work remotely from outside of Arizona, your overtime exemption status will depend on the laws of the state where you perform your work. For employees working outside of Arizona, you may be hired as an hourly employee in accordance with state laws. A comparable hourly rate range would be: $36.32 - $47.22. These changes would not affect the position duties as outlined.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform Statistical Analyses, Interpret and Communicate Results:

  • Serve as an independent primary statistical analyst responsible for multiple UACC research projects. Responsibilities include:
    • Strategic Communication with study investigators to understand scientific needs and hypotheses of the study
    • Developing statistical analysis plans to address scientific hypotheses, performing analyses using reproducible computing approaches.
    • Developing graphical summaries of results, and communicating results verbally and in writing to appropriate statistical and non-statistical audiences.
    • Prepare formal written documentation of all analyses with the appropriate statistical analysis code.
    • Independently prepare Statistical Methods and Results sections for scientific manuscripts.

Database Design, QA/QC Procedures, and Reporting:

  • Provide CP-CTNet data management and quality assurance across multiple studies, by interacting with study personnel at multiple sites.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and entry using job expertise and knowledge.
  • Support the development and implementation of data QA/QC procedures and internal audit practices.
  • Assist with expanding and optimizing the use of internal and external reporting tools (e.g., CP-CTNet Data Management, Auditing, and Coordinating Center (DMACC) dashboards).
  • Generate routine monthly reports and customized analytics for operational and scientific use.

Design Studies, Sample Size and Power Analyses, and Grant Proposal Development

  • Independently collaborate with UACC investigators to provide statistical study design to address research hypotheses. This includes calculating sample size requirements to evaluate scientifically meaningful treatment effect sizes with appropriate statistical power. This is typically performed as a part of grant proposal development.
  • Prepares formal written documentation for grant proposals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Statistical analysis capabilities
  • Ability to trouble-shoot data anomalies
  • Ability to create and document reproducible statistical analysis code using Stata/SAS/R
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate findings clearly
  • Team-player. Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary research teams
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience working with clinical trial data and statistical reporting.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in statistical software (e.g.,Stata, SAS, R)
  • Prior background in REDCap or similar clinical data systems.
  • Working knowledge of GCP, NIH/FDA reporting requirements, and ClinicalTrials.gov procedures.
