Position Highlights

The Department of Medicine invites applicants for a Physician Scientist at the rank of Professor, with Tenure. Appointee will maintain a productive research program and is expected to provide direct patient care. Other responsibilities will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students. We are interested in applicants in the areas of vascular biology, vascular cell signaling, and vascular inflammation.

Primary appointment is with the Department of Medicine, although we anticipate that appointee will develop close interactions with other departments, divisions, centers, and institutes at the University of Arizona, with additional opportunities possible via research partnerships with the Veterans Affairs (VA) Tucson Medical Center, which serves all Southern Arizona. Faculty recruited through this effort will strengthen a collegial and internationally acclaimed research base that is making major contributions to the advancement of human health.

The College of Medicine - Tucson provides state-of-the-art programs in medical education, groundbreaking research opportunities, and leading-edge patient care, anchoring the main campus-adjacent, UA Health Sciences campus, which also includes Colleges of Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, and (Allied) Health Sciences. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop
    and maintain a NIH funded research program in area of research
    expertise/specialization and produce strong-peer-reviewed publications.
  • Lead
    or contribute to "team science" based interdisciplinary research
    grants/projects.
  • Provide clinical inpatient/outpatient services.
  • Provide
    instruction in professional, graduate, and undergraduate degree programs
    as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD
    or MD/PHD.
  • Board
    certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine/Medical
    Subspecialties and eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the
    State of Arizona.
  • Demonstrated
    track record of distinction in teaching, clinical care, and/or research
    in an academic department of medicine or equivalent environment.
  • Successful
    track record of working with trainees and students.
  • Demonstrated
    commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented, team-based
    philosophy with hospital administration and health professional
    colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties.
  • If
    the individual selected for employment does NOT currently hold
    a faculty title with The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson,
    he/she will be required to obtain faculty status. This will include
    obtaining letters of recommendation and review by the appropriate departmental
    and college review committees.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated recognition and/or outstanding leadership in major subspecialty division/section at a (NIH funded) department of internal medicine.
  • Established and continuing independent NIH-or other federally funded sponsored research portfolio and/or other evidence of active scientific research including peer-reviewed articles and extramural funding.
