Position Highlights |
The University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy is seeking a Research Scientist in the lab of Dr. Wei Wang. The candidate is expected to carry out research projects in drug discovery and chemical biology in the areas of neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. The projects use organic synthesis, drug design, cell biology, molecular imaging and microscopic analysis, cell culture, and animal models to study and test compound activity and mechanism of action. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Develop research plan, design and conduct experiments and evaluate research data and results independently. Analyze and interpret data using advanced statistical and computation technique. Oversee and operate complex laboratory experiments requiring a high level of expertise and skills in medicinal chemistry and manage sensitive laboratory equipment including gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, LC-MS, high content imaging spectrometer. Assist with writing grants, progress reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Formulate research methods. Develop new approaches and new protocols. Participate in new projects using new techniques. Engage in independent research in chemical biology and drug discovery with minimal supervision.
- Contribute to ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Help the PI with writing manuscripts for scientific publications. Participate in acquisition of research funding by assisting with the development of grant proposals.
- Advise graduate students, teach as necessary, and grow their own research program working closely with a team of scientists.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Skilled in complex organic synthesis, compound purification and characterization.
- Knowledge in in silico drug design, cell and biochemical assays.
- Strong data analysis and problem solving skill.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
