The Position

The STEM Center Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, training, and operational oversight of the STEM Center. This role focuses on administrative and supervisory responsibilities while also providing direct academic support to students in STEM subjects. The Coordinator ensures the quality and effectiveness of tutoring services, manages tutor schedules, maintains data records, and collaborates with faculty and staff to enhance student success.

Staff Duration: Full Time 12 months


What You Will Do

  1. Supervise STEM regular part-time tutors, and recruit peer and temporary tutors.
  2. Sign timesheets, conduct weekly meetings to provide guidance, assign tasks, and ensure accountability of direct reports.
  3. Oversee tutor hiring, training, and development, ensuring all staff are equipped with the necessary skills to support student success.
  4. Manage STEM Center scheduling and operations, ensuring adequate coverage for student support.
  5. Maintain and analyze STEM Center data on tutoring sessions, student engagement, and outcomes, assisting with database management and reporting.
  6. Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to align STEM Center services with course objectives.
  7. Develop and implement training workshops and professional development sessions for tutors.
  8. Manage and assess the STEM Center inventory to ensure it remains equipped with necessary materials and resources to support tutoring sessions.
  9. Participate in institutional events and initiatives, including colloquiums, commencement, and workshops as directed.
  10. Assist in program assessment and continuous improvement efforts for tutoring services.
  11. Provide individual and group tutoring in STEM subjects, focusing on high-demand areas.
  12. Support students in developing study strategies and problem-solving skills in STEM coursework.
  13. Maintain expertise in one or more STEM disciplines to provide high-quality academic support.
  14. Encourage student engagement in tutoring and academic support programs to promote retention and success.
  15. Related projects and initiatives as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) is highly desirable; however, an associate's degree and an additional 3 years of related experience (total of 5 years) may be substituted in lieu of the bachelor's degree.
  2. Two years of prior experience providing STEM tutorial support.
  3. Experience working with students in higher education.
  4. Demonstrated ability to serve as team/project leader and/or assist with supervision of others.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a database system; ability to create standard/new reports with limited oversight; prior use of online platforms and sites.

Even Better If You Have

1. Bilingual.
2. Master's or Bachelor's degree in STEM-related field.
3. Prior supervisory experience.
