Job Summary
The PT 3 - Neurological Lead performs patient treatments and patient care activities. The PT 3 acts as the lead person responsible for the orientation and training of other Physical Therapy support personnel and must be experienced in all aspects of Physical Therapy treatments. The PT 3 - Neurological Lead must be able to float or rotate to any area with minimal orientation/supervision. This specialist keeps abreast of current knowledge in the field and shares this information with the health care community. This therapist carries qualifications that are professionally recognized in the field. - California Licensed Physical Therapist
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or UC Davis Health CPR
- APTA Clinical Educator Certification or willingness to obtain CI
- Graduated from an accredited physical therapy program (Bachelor's degree or higher) in the U.S., or completed requirements for foreign-trained physical therapists working in the U.S.
- Two years' minimum experience as a Physical Therapist working with the Neuro population
- Must have experience treating patients with Neurological conditions
- Possesses advanced knowledge of, and the ability to apply, the principles, practices, and techniques of patient care in Physical Therapy as defined by the California Physical Therapy Practice Act and state licensure requirements, with specialized expertise in treating neurological conditions.
- Advanced Skills to establish and follow/ provide a plan of care appropriate to neuro rehab patients, and other patients with a variety of diagnoses
- Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed Physical Therapist as required and assigned by Physical Medicine & Rehab Leadership
- Advanced ability to serve as a resource for staff in the area of Neurorehabilitation
- Ability to educate and train professional staff within the health system and in the community
- Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations, and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for the clinic's/department's customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner; to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and to use a proactive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action
- Ability to maintain composure, efficiency, and a positive, customer-service-oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed
- Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties
- Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when the limits of delegated authority have been reached
- Highly developed skills in leadership, organization, and clinical and non-clinical judgement
- Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times
- Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
- Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
- Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
- Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
- Must have basic computer skills

Work Environment
